My wife successfully defended her dissertation today (yesterday at this pont), thus completing all of her requirements for her doctoral degree (in Education)!

Due to the timing, she won't be able to graduate until May (missed December graduation by 15 days), but hey.. she's done! Woo-hoo!

So now you have to refer to your self as:

Mr. (fill in wife's first name here) B.

Just kidding. I'm in awe of anyone who pursues and achieves a graduate degree. Tell her she's officially an expert in her field now. Sounds silly, but not many people can claim that and back it up.

I guess we EBMM guitar players marry well above our level, eh? ;)

At 38 I'm almost done with a Bachelor of Science degree since I skipped college for 15 years chasing a music career, while my wife had two degrees by the time she was 23.

Hahaha.. :D

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm very proud of her, and will pass along your congratulatory remarks.

As for me changing my name.. she hasn't asked me to do that yet, so I'm safe for the moment! :D

Good for her!

I know the perfect gift for her: a nice new EBMM guitar. After all, a doctor deserves a classy axe.

Congrats to her Steve,

I know what it's all like (having obtained my PhD degree about a year ago). Once the public defence is over, everything falls into place and suddenly you understand why you have been doing it all the time.

Thumbs up,

Tom.

ernie1966: you're right! She would look great in a Blue Pearl Albert Lee! Why didn't I think of that? :D

Tokkes: I know that my wife (Angela) would agree with your statements 100%.

Beth,

I like how you're looking out for the women in our lives. A couple of threads ago you told me to take my wife out for a nice dinner.

I did. We had a great time despite the drunks next to us. (I don't have anything against people who drink, but when you paying $40 for a filet it stinks when the tailgate party is next to you hooting an hollering.)

Of course she really paid for the meal because she owns a tourism magazine - the restauranteur is one of her advertizers - barter - complicated.

But I supported her for several years before the magazine took off . . . So I paid for dinner 3 years ago . . .

- anyway - I took her out, and we had a great time. The duct tape came off the kids without leaving too much sticky adhesive behind (we had to tape them to the floor so we could leave beacuse they're little monsters - you'd think they had me for a parent - wait - they do)

My mind is scary - anyway - thanks for the suggestion. Her car's transmission blew out today (2 year old car) - she's bummed and frustrated - I think I'll bring home a little cheer - flowers or something like that.

You're a good man, Edensdad. Bring her flowers and draw a bath for her with candles and rose petals. She'll love you so much for that. It's the little things, you know? A few weeds that have petals on them go a long way.

I agree, you only expect to have an indoor tailgate party next to you in a restaurant when you're at Hooters. Someone I know who likes to have loud dinner parties will always buy everyone in the restaurant a drink and forewarn them that they're going to be loud.

Another good one is "did you do something to your hair? I don't know, you look different today, you look really pretty" -- she'll be eating out of your hand...

:D

Hey Steve,
Congratulations to Angela. That's quite an accomplishment. It took me 10 years to get my BS degree going part time, working fulltime and raising a family, oh yeah and throw in a couple of divorces to boot...

It's certainly something to be proud of.

Thanks again to all.

Beth, I got her some engraved things with her name & new title, for her office.

Also, the same night of her defense, we had a group of 19 of us celebrating with dinner & drinks at a downtown restaurant/jazz club.

I think I spent more that night than any shoe-shopping trip... ;)

Besides, she must have like 60 pairs of shoes already. I'm not making that number up, either. It might even be a conservative figure, 'cause she has lots of character and tap shoes for performing, too!

Steve,

Many congratulations to your wife on this great achievement. She must be so relieved and happy that the biggest obstacle is out of the way. Kudos to her!! You must be a very proud man now :) I am myself looking at a May dissertation defense and a june graduation if all the paperwork goes through in time and I have no nasty twists to deal with. I may celebrate with a new EBMM guitar :)

Thanks, Supreeth, and good luck with your dissertation.

See? All the smart people (or those of us married to smart people) play EBMM! :D
