What a great show! I'll have to find a way to get to one. Both bands are awesome live.

that is BLASPHEMY!
sorry guys, but come on DT opening for IM

considering the music both bands wrote until now, IM should be grateful to play even a song to open a DT concert

but is their decision not mine

for me is like having a friendly football game between Brazil and Burkina Faso ...
and we all know Brazil , right? :p

PS: did not want to offend anyone with this :)

Great tour it should be - sadly, not in Europe, but oh well...

The only sad thing for me - DT seem to have given up the dream of playing the MSG as a headliner.

i forgot about maiden long ago, monotonic songs now, they all sound identical to me, DT opening for them is like having an idol covering bon jovi playing after bon jovi performed.

may be a huge honor for DT, but i think they are bigger than maiden nowadays

Yeah, that's why Maiden sells out arenas while DT plays to mostly filled amphitheaters and mid sized venues as part of package tours.

I love DT as much as the next guy, but some of these posts are just silly. By their own admission the only way DT gets anywhere near a place like like MSG is as a guest of a larger, more successful band.

No doubt. Dream Theater = Tour Bus; Iron Maiden = Jumbo Jet

Backstreet boys sold out arenas too - hahhah
is that the criteria when judging music quality? :)

I like a lot Bruce's voice, and solo albums, but Maiden means a lot of monotony for sure. DT is from other dimension ...

and all of this are subjective perspectives of course :p

Paolo, the post I responded to was not about quality or musicianship (though Maiden has plenty of both), it was about the popularity of the two bands. The Backstreet Boys analogy makes no sense here.

yeah, it seems nowadays the better the music, the less people want to hear it, even bossa nova today is designated as "elevator music".

I think DT will be bigger in 50 years than they are now

It's really quite odd (and amusing) that so many folks are taking this as some sort of personal attack on them as fans.

For every DT fan that doesn't want to sit through Maiden's "boring, repetitive" songs, there's a Maiden fan that doesn't want to sit through DT's "boring 10 minute long wank-fests, with their terrible singer".

I don't get it.

It's alright, Jonah. I, like you, enjoy both bands and am doubly-excited. The nay-sayers just don't understand this milestone for Dream Theater.

So I'll ask this question of everyone else: If you had the chance to open for one of the bands who inspired you to become a musician, wouldn't you do it no matter whether you were more popular or not?

I sure would.

I'm waiting for 98 Degrees to open for Color Me Badd...or would Color Me Badd open for 98 Degrees?

crap, this is harder than the Beatles / Stones argument.

Don't even get me started on New Edition and Bell Biv Devoe!

That's a great point that our two forum members are not getting:rolleyes:. No matter what you think of Maiden's music, they are legendary! Amazing bands like DT wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for bands like Maiden. Have some respect for the great legacy metal bands that made an important mark on today's rock/metal music!

What I think is a bit odd for some guys here is the thought of DT opening for ANYBODY and not playing the whole evening show. That's perfectly fine - but that's not Maiden's fault DT opens for them, so let's stay polite to IM, shouldn't we?

From a DT-Fan point of view playing with one of their alltime heroes doesn't look like a total sellout - that would be quite different if DT was opening for Backstreet Boys, though :) But who knows, maybe Backstreet Boys ARE one of the two other bands DT has ever considered opening for?
