Jee, you really got me thinkg on this one.... As a single song - Change of Seasons.
But Home is so good too, and Misunderstood lyrics, and Glass prison. But I love the intro to Change of Seasons. And the winner is ... Change of Seasons! At least for me...

Good call. Hells Kitchen, complete with segue into Lines in the Sand is on of my favorite moments on Falling Into Infinity. :cool:

I gotta say that my two faves are "Lines in the Sand" and "Burning My Soul". Love the solo in LITS, and BMS just has that crunchy, makes me want to hit something or someone feeling. :)

I know there's a fair amount of folk here from Phoenix and Arizona; DT is set to play here on 7/23...interest in a group thingie, a la pre-show dinner and drinks, tickets together, etc.? Throw me an email or a PM...

Really not an easy choice and although I'm not the biggest DT fan on the forum by any means i do have most of their albums.

I gotta say I think The Mirror/Lie from Awake are excellent and in particular the transition into that burning groove at the beginning of Lie that always gives me goosebumps. :cool:

Self Acclaimed World's Biggest Dream Theater fan here:

I love the The Glass Prison & This Dying Soul for lyrical content - MP and I have that history in common.

Under a Glass Moon and the Outro of Innocence Faded for killer guitar.

The entire Scenes from a Memory is my all time favorite album - it's a masterpiece.

I'm not a huge fan of Train of thought. It's still better than 90% of what's available out there in music, but it's not up to previous Dream Theater work. The keyboards are buried and the tone is way too dark. I hope they move back toward the Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Scenes From a Memory sound. I haven't heard the new stuff - I don't do music sharing anymore. I don't like the court system much.

Well, although not a Dream Theater song as such I always though the solo spot Petrucci did on the Scenes from NY CD was so cool. With the female vocal and him together. It was cool to see a player with his chops do something like that instead of just the usual masturbatory guitar solo.

As for song, maybe not my overall favorite, I'm really liking it when my iPod hits on Six-O-Clock, from Awake.

What a great song! Always sticks in my mind as it was the first DT song I ever heard. I too am not a huge fan but do have all of their studio releases plus the concert DVDs (maybe that makes me a huge fan, I don't know! Not that thrilled with TOT though).

As far as a faovrite song, I think I would have to argue that SFAM could be considered one song as it is all basically one story, and I'll pick that one for now! :D :D :D

Although, Awake is such a watershed album, I think. Amazing all around. Now, about LaBrie's hair.......

I've already posted on this, but should just add that the live version of To Live Forever from the Japan dvd with petruccis extended solo is inspired - musically that would be one of my faves. Album wise, I'll stick with my original vote - Change of Seasons or Glass Prison - my brother has loads of unofficial live stuff which is pretty cool - what amazes me is that they really are that good all the time - I could count petruccis mistakes on one hand - the guy is a machine

Same as teh negative things all the "so called" fans post on WEBSITES...if you're a fan you'll buy the record...and formulate your OWN opinion...

Seriously...I listen to alot...ALOT of music, various genres bands, whathaveyou...and many in DT's fanbase are the biggest bunch of critical, closeminded, idiotic, whining complainers...it's like they don't get albums written exactly the way they want (IAW pts1, 2 , 3 ,4 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10....)and either sucks or it's horrible, if the cover art isn't what they envision it to be it's the worst, oh and the cake taker were the kids on the JP forum bitching about how OctaV is going to suck because they didn't like the song titles when they posted the tracklisting some months ago...stupids...and you can see this on the band's OWN forums... :(

I agree with you completely. In fact, alot of my rant was based on much of the idiotic drivel I have read over there. But, let's face facts. Most of these retards don't know their a** from a hole in the ground when it comes to discussing music. Of course these are the same infantile, juvenile, imbecils who moan the loudest about how John never vists the forum.

Disclaimer: I don't believe that we are obligated to "love" everything an artist puts out. I have the utmost respect for peoples opinions (pro or con) regarding music, or a particular band/artist, when it is communicated in an intelligent, or at least understandable manner. However, when a band asks that people refrain from commenting pro/con about their new album until it is released, then as a fan respect their wishes. When a person goes ahead and illegally downloads a bands album with no intention of ever buying it, announces it on the members forum, and then proceeds to post such insightful (sarcasm) comments as "this album sucks," this is their worst album," etc., then you are not a fan. In fact, that is strictly a douchebag maneuver. That's just my two cents.

Wow CBP...you must've read my rhetoric over there....I rarely post on any DT related forums these days because most of the threads that concern the guys turn into violent flame wars between the "only IAW rules and everything else blows" camp and the "I like each record for what it is, a capture of a moment in time" camps...it's just zero fun when people post pointed digs AT THE BAND MEMBERS ON THEIR OWN FORUMS. Hence why most of these same twinks complain because the guys have refrained from being superfanfriendly...don't deuce where you consume say I.

I've been listening to Octovarium since Thursday and am digging it. While it's not a legit copy, I've already pre-ordered it from Amazon to support the boys.
