What's the story with the D-tuna?

How easy are they to install and how effective are they? I love being able to drop D-tune every now and then but obviously a Floyd gets in the way.

Is it worth getting?

Does it have anything to do with tinned fish?

It is a good little invention, especially if you use Drop D often. I installed one in about 10-15 minutes and it worked like a charm.

Most users on this forum would highly suggest buying a second music man guitar. :)

The dtuna is one of the few gadgets that I've ever bought for the guitar that works as advertised. I highly recommend it.

Am i correct in presuming that fitting one won't affect my warranty?

No. You don't alter your bridge. It fits right in.

Now, you need to know that unless your trem is blocked (won't pull up) the Tuna won't work. I also think there are some trems out there that it won't work with. BUT I believe it works it 90+% over them so odds are you'll be fine.

It really is a simple tool that works as advertised.

The D-Tuna is great. Works like a charm, and is easy to install.

It will work with the MM Floyd. Rob, if your guitars don't have a Floyd, you might need to look in to the Hipshot Guitar Extender. It's a tuning key replacement for the low E tuner. Works on the same principle as the D tuna.

It won't work on the Lo-Pro trems, and it won't work on recessed trems without modification (modding the trem rout). If you have your MM Floyd set up to float, you can use it on that.

Buying a hipshot to me is just a waste of money. Just tune down. The point of the d-tuna is to avoid unlocking the nut.

I had a D-Tuna on my old Axis. Never worked for me. I had to have my action super high so it wouldn't sit on the guitar top. Also when I raised it it would only drop me down to a E flat. Now this may be a error on my part. But the issue of it touching the top of the guitar to me was unacceptable. I returned mine.

The D Tuna was designed by a copier repair man. Dudley knows his name. We found him and put some on eddies guitars. I think eddie designed them now though...he did buy the patent

sounds like you may have done something wrong there Larry, I put one on my EVH and an Axis with no problems

When it drop to D, do you have to retune all other string or they all stay tune? It must be an alternative for me for some covers we want to do.

No, it works with the Floyd Rose double locking tremolo system. It's a key that fits on the Low E String lock on the Floyd block. By pulling the key out, it releases enough tension to drop the tuning on the low E one full step. All the other strings stay in their normal tuning. Supposedly, you can theoretically use the D-Tuna on any of the strings on a Floyd, but it works best on the Low E.

BP, it's interesting that it was originally designed by a copier repair man. I had done a patent search, and a person who's name isn't connected with ELVH, inc, came up. It's equally amazing that you can sell a patent off. I guess if you need the money. History is full of people selling off their ideas for a song.

In the D-tuna website, if you read carefully, says: "it's a new patented device" and "He's (Ed's) been using it on his guitars for five years"... They don't say in any place that was designed by EVH. So this also backs up what BP remarks. Eddie just has the patent.
Anyway, I'll give it a try in my future Axis! :) Really a helpful device in FR guitar.
