Hey Guys,

I'm totally new here and just picked up a stunning 25th Anniversary EBMM. Had 2 to choose from. One that was in store with a flametop, birdseye maple neck and a rosewood fretboard but I actually had them special order me a quilttop, full maple neck and maple fretboard.

Picked up the guitar last night and it indeed was stunning. Played it at home and it is everything everyone says it is. Light, tonal, comfortable, and almost plays itself. Only thing I noticed is that my neck is actually a very pretty flamed maple but not the birdseye I had seen in store and heard so much about.

I have no plans to return it as we have bonded :) but any clue what percentage of 25ths got birdseye vs. other type necks? I'm sure other models (Steve Morse, etc.) also experience this but just wondering why the change?

I doubt EBMM has any info regarding that. The necks are simply picked. Luck of the draw if you will. You can't order "bird's eye" or "flame" necks.

time4akshun, Koogie is correct, the necks are luck of the draw. Congrats on the purchase and glad you like the 25th, lots of people rav about it man.

I've got 5 EBMM's and only one is really birdseye and to me, it's no big deal, I love em all man.

You got any pictures??

I've got birdseye on my Axis' and my 25th has an awesome flame to it. For me, no "bad" luck of the draw. It's all good.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on an awesome guitar!!!!

I love my 25th. It's got some birdseye on it, but it doesn't really matter to me that much.
My Silhouette's neck is white as can be! LoL! Sure I wish it had a little more character, but again; as long as they play well.

My 25th has a beautiful flamed neck which matches its flamed top. 2 of my petruccis are flamed, one has birdseye. One Morse has a combination, the other is birdseye. All luck of the draw, all beautiful in their own way, all never leaving the stable.

There were a bunch of flame necks scattered through the signature and anniversary lines starting towards the end of last year. There is really no rhyme or reason as to what guitar got what type of figured maple, whatever was on the top of the wood pile is what was used.

We had some Gold Rollers, JPs, and 25ths come through with flamed necks, and some of them are still popping up from time to time.

I was stunned when I got my 25th. Killer birdseye on it.

Pete, didn't you get a DDII Gold roller with some sick flame?

Yes I did! I also commandeered a 25th w/ flame. My 2001 JP has a flame neck, too - I'm a sucker for those necks.

Gold Roller neck is at 0:28 - for some reason I can't add annotations so enjoy the background music from before the set started.

The neck of my 25th is kinda "two-faced"...

...one side has some flames to it...

...the other side has quite a nice amount of birdseye...

...here's how it looks in total...
