Ok you guys, i had to do this, since i bought it very cheap, and it needed a little TLC... i bought this EVH from Chris @ Chris Guitars.. some people told me not to buy this one, because it wasnt 100% original because of the floyd.. but HEY, i had a original Music Man floyd rose here from an exchange i did a couple of months ago..
so i began thinking, and i hit the paypal button and bought it..

this is how it first came (picturers from chris website)

with these flaws, notice the backside all in the wood... :(

So i decided to start a do a restoration to it.. why? this is not gonna be for sale, is for my personal collection and i dont care if it degrades its collectable value..

so i started sanding off the clear of it 100% and removing the current red dye(tint) from the body...

then i applied a red stain (darker one) to make the shadows of the quilt even more punchy than it was when original..

then i sanded the tint again (notice the more darker shadows on the quilt)

and then i was ready to apply the Red tint, a bright red like the original...

and this is the final product... check this out... (notice the shadows of the quilt now? much heavier than when original...)

the back side..

Another one of the front... with the original Music Man trem...

and this is the full guitar 100% restored, no flaws, no nothing..

Thanks for looking people!

Wow- that's an awesome job!

You, sir, deseve an award for rescuing that EVH and bringing it back to life.

Good deed for the year, I'd say.

wow that is amazing indeed. i wish i could do stuff like that. my only question is when you do something like that how do you keep the binding nice and clean. makes me not shy away from a faded purple cause with someone like that it can be good as new again.

Thanks a lot guys...

J_Alexander.. for the binding, after i put the stain on i waited a few hours till it was dry, then with a 0000 steel wool i rubbed the binding and it removed all the stain on it..

Nice! Did you refinish the headstock too? How did you polish out the body? I'm no stranger to the process. This was the body of a guitar I built from scratch on the day I finished rubbing her out. Your stain looks great.

Beautiful job! I'd pay more for that than I'd pay for it the way you bought it. I don't think you lost value. I think you brought it back!

Really good job Livin.. out of curiousity what do you do for a living? As you're obviously well skilled in this trade, at least.

The difference betwen the floyd and the gotoh, is that i felt a little more sustain with the gotoh, maybe is because of the block....???...

Nad, i run a Internet Cafe in my home town and i do Programming, Websites & Graphic Design. but i do guitar painting on the side..

ernie, i restored the back side of the guitar by sanding the damages and getting even with the corners so i dont get uneveness.. then i painted black + clear.

Ah, that's really cool. I can't wait for the day when I'll be able to have my fingers in pies as fun as that just on the side outside my job. I would've presumed that you're a craftsman/luthier from how well it turned out.

Nice job on it anyway, I was saying in another thread I do think theres a bit of snobbery that goes about with things being non original and one of the most fun aspects of guitars for me is making them into my own and mods/customisation even though I don't do as much as I'd like to. At the end of the day your the only person you need to please, so congrats on having the balls to undertake that yourself, the fruits of your labour sure taste sweet by the look of those pictures.

Once again, congrats!
