im just getting into the whole pedal thing myself....

im using a Boss DD3 delay, a Maxon OD9 oevrdrive and some random Ibanez Pedal ive had in a box for 7 years for distortion (it just replaced my Boxx Metal Zone).

All this goes thru my Fender Blues Junior since im a fake guitarist and dont have/need a better/bigger rig.

Kinda surprisingly even the AL thru the Blues Junior with this crazy Ibanez pedal pulls off some really nice metal tones (a la Slayer).

That whole Alesis line of "ModFX" is awesome. I have all seven units that they produced and all can be found very cheaply (on the Bay of E etc) apart from the Bitrman which can sell for a heck of a lot more than the others!

Worth anyone's time to check out if you ask me....

Steve.

:)

Yeah, the funny thing about the bitrman...it doesn't excite me that much. Not that it isn't cool, I like the idea but I think the price is inflated. I'm actually designing something similar, but all analog using an S/H for the decimator, a resistor ladder for the quantizing circuit, and some pretty funky ways to modulate the S/H clock - it's going to be pretty nuts. :)

I've got serious fx GAS at the moment :D

My current setup goes> Cornish G2>EBMM Volume>Wah (waiting on the EBMM)>Boss CS3 modified>Voodoo Labs Trem>Boss CH1>Boss DD3>Hiwatt

However, this time next year, I expect it to be a bit different :D

It's a subjective thing, you have to find what suits you best.

(Oh and for theatre stuff, I usually go into a Rocktron Chameleon, then DI into the desk)

Been through tooo many pedals, still looking for that amp that will do it all. With that said, the latest dirt pedals are MI Crunch Box/AC booster/OCD (still on this for a Zendrive)

I've got a Boss DS1 for heavy stuff, a fender amp for cleans, and a tech 21 amp for recording. It's all small, portable, and sounds good.

I like to run a not-very-intense chorus, then some delay and a pinch of reverb.
(Boss Chorus Ensemble, DD-6 and RV-5)

I really love that Chorus Ensemble pedal. You can dial in just a little 'current' of chorus without the sound getting cheesy.

i have a CH-1 Boss chorus, i dont really like it, but i have heard the chorus ensemble pedal, it sounds brilliant, just the kind of chorus sound i like. anyone here compared the two?

Here is a complx signal path and FX description from the Machines section of my band's website where I am trying to start logging a description of the rig setups I use to do our live shows. This clip is the first two tunes (dedicated to Eric Johnson) from our recent CD release show with Jerry Goodman (electric violin) and it uses the following signal paths and effects in parallel:

Live Clip with W/D/D/W rig on "Little Black Baby Jesus and Sacred Watershed" mega-patch:

Little Black Baby Jesus and Sacred Watershed Live Clip (Dec 06)

Without the Switchblade and FX-1, I couldn’t achieve half my live sounds with same convenience and flexibility. In this live clip from our CD release concert last week, I am using a what I call a Switchblade “mega setup” to fade in between three main sounds with variations in a W/D/D/W rig. It is basically three discreet signal path sets that are always on. The FX-1 and Switchblade allow me to switch or fade in-between them without an MIDI program changes occurring and the associated problems or risks. It’s kind of like new old-school.

The Sounds and signal paths are:

A. Psychedelic Backwards guitar:
a. (100% wet) patch that is Magnetic pickups—Egnater M4 (MHG channel)-Eventide Block A—Rack Mixer—Wet Power amp—EV PA Speakers.

B. Clean w/ Chorus+piezo+Resorgan K2500R:
a. Dry: magnetic pickups – Keeley Comp – Egnater ie4 ch 2—VHT 2-50-2 (class A mode) Ch A—Earcandy 2x12s (Eminence TX heats).
b. Wet FX: In parallel to this is the wet chorus and delay sent from Egnater ie4—Lexicon G2 (with speaker emulator)—Rack mixer—Wet Power amp—EV PA Speakers.
c. Piezo:
i. (dry) RMC Pickups—Joe Meek VC6 pre— Rack mixer—Wet Power amp—EV PA Speakers.
ii. (wet) VC6—G2—etc.
d. Synth: RMC—Axon—K2500R— Rack mixer—Wet Power amp—EV PA Speakers.

C. Distorted Lead (with modulated Analog Delay):
a. Dry: mag pickups—Egnater M4 (MHG channel still)—VHT Ch B (class A/B)—Earcandy 2x12 (Swamp Thang and Governor)
b. Mic’ed dry lead cab—to little Mackie mixer—Eventide block B—Rack mixer—Wet Power amp—EV PA Speakers.

Mix, Control and Application: Note that the FOH gets a summation on the Mic’ed cabs and all the “wet” stuff going to the EV PA cabs. I dial the mix at home and don’t need to mess with it much at the gig since the Switchblade pedals let me adjust minute details. I control it all with the Axess FX1 with an array of Boss FS-5U A/B switches and Ernie Ball pedals. The Axess lets me punch from the clean to lead with either a momentary or latching Switch or morph with the volume pedal. This later effect is really important live for our tunes “Sacred Watershed” and “Subterranean Rapid Transit.” I also have a hold pedal that can keep the synth going on a chord while I do a lead if I want. This is really important in “Sacred Watershed” in a few places.

I have a bunch of effects, however they're just there to colour the sound of a great amp :)

90% of my sound is EMBB + Guytron. The rest is a touch of delay, verb, chorus or phaser.
Beej, your sound is very impressive. Hopefully a soon to be released CD will prove me right ... ;)

I used to own a different Boss chorus years ago.. the "Stereo Chorus".. which I think is the CH-1. It was nice in its time, but it's always a little too 'wet' for my current tastes. I sold that pedal about 6 or 7 years ago. I bought the Chorus Ensemble just about a year ago and I like it much better. I can't do a comprehensive comparison because it's been so long since I used the other one.

AGREED! Some great sounds there. I heard the Eventide going before I even read the whole post. What model do you have? I have an old H3000SE, but I'm not using it right now. Your mp3 made me want to break it out again.

Glad you find it interesting folks. The Eventide is the Eclipse. I wrote a program that has the backwards delay on A and the Analog delay for the lead on B. Yes, the Egnater stuff is amazing. It's not cheap, but with every penny on my view. Like beej implied, with a great guitar and amp, the FX are just coloring or seasoning. I didn't actually use too many FX on our album for most tunes, but I try to fill out more space live, so the FX get a little more involved when we play as a trio or quartet.

Yeah Rob - I have a CH-1 I tried out the Chorus ensemble and did an AB - very disappointed. the CH-1 kicked it's ass - IMHO!

I've also got a Rocktron Tsunami...... good waste of a doorstop... it's off to da' bay.
