Wow, I love hearing those stories- thanks Sterling!

Yeah, I'd love to hear the Bass endorsee stories as well.

No sticky

Tony was with Music Man prior to our buying Music Man. when we took control Tony was the first artist that I contacted personally. I invited him to SLO and he stayed at my old house The Fun Ranch (Fun Ranch Boogie..) We got along real well and he has been a reall pleasure to work with. At firsst he didnt want to know anything technical and really didnt want to try much new. I made him some unique 'fashion basses"
He has gotten more adventurous lately and is loving the BOngo and went through all of the the two pick up basses at the NAMM show this year. It is funny to watch important artists at the listening station with headphones on focusing just like a little kid

Flea was using the basses and really didnt have any direct connection with us. I invited him to slo to play in a The Mike Krukow Charity Golf Tournament ( former Cal Poly Alumni and Major League pitcher now broadcaster for the San Francisco Giants...has an orange axis) and he accepted. He showed up late barefoot and without a shirt golf clubs or balls. we got on pretty good. From there we supplied him with alot of basses and I hated ihis bass smashing phase. He left over money. He wanted a Flea signature Stingray and I said that wouldnt be right by Leo, Tony, Louis and all of the other stingray players. He said that his drummer was going to make a 100k from snare drum royalties and he wanted to make a cut on stingrays. I thought I had him calmed down but then I got wind of the Modulous deal and the last conversation was his atorney trying to tell me what I had to do and I said the only thing I really get to do is hang up on you....last contact. I wish that Flea and us could have split under better circumstances. I was right though

The funny story about Flea is that I asked him to do an ad for Slinky Bass strings that had just come out. he had the strings claimed to like them and I had a wacky shot of him and it said "Flea's Gone Slinky" The ad came out and Flea said GHS called and was bummed and he didnt know he was doing a string ad.....

It makes me all warm to know that Tony's digging the Bongo. I don't have too many bass 'idols', for want of a better word, but Tony Levin is certainly in my top three.

Tony, McCartney, maybe John Wetton, and of course that Sterling Ball fellow.

Heh heh. (You really do make me want to practice.)

But TL is just about the pinnacle for me, and while I'm thinking about it, thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet the guy. He was being careful about hanging out with me and Luke, and who can blame him? Luke and I were having 'a moment' and Tony was trying to upload photos to his website, as I recall - God bless him.

I "appreciate" Flea most of the time. I mean, I do get that he is talented, but it might be my age that keeps me from hero worship. I suppose I wish he had made different decisions.

Nonetheless, thanks, Boss. It's these little tidbits that keep this forum way beyond interesting. No, no sticky, but I save it all to the files.

Subject to your approval, someday.

Cheers, sir.

hey I didn't know that Dudley was the magic touch of valley arts :) I loved my custom pro bents 7/8 , thanks dudley !

I've read in a french magazine this story about luke folowing him to music man...sorry to tell here mistakes of a jurnalist...

to me that was kind of fun...I had a mail from patrice vigier, from vigier guitars who is also the CEO of high tech distribution, music man importator in france...he just wrote..."do you have some sound for me ?" :)

I sent him mp3's then a CD but I did not know if it was for vigier or MM...so I was a bit nervous about that, cause I did not want to change ! but of course, he wanted me for music man and said "don't change nothing...just keep on playing guitar and making music the same way , you'll just have more guitars..." ok ...it's still a dream one year and a half later...

now the coolest part : patrice heard about me while he was surfing HERE in the forum...he did read my posts, see my video, then he went to my website and that was it...

everybody @ music man SLO is really really nice with me, beth, jon, kevin, brian, big poppa...

so...the only thing I want is that it never stops ! :)

You know, the really cool part about being here for me is how much my "closed room" of musical talent has opened up. I bought an EBMM on a whim at my local GC, registered it here and have been on the forum since then. Been a couple of years. What a great couple of years it has been too! :D

What is really cool is how many of the knuckleheads here have opened my eyes to the vast musical talent out there. NorM and Kbaim turned me on to Steve Morse. Honestly, I never heard of him. EBMM turned me onto John Petrucci, I would have never have listened to Dream Theater in my life.

Big Poppa and crew have turned me onto Luke and all his magical work. I heard of Toto, but never bought an album or CD by them. I met Luke at the Open House and would have never known he was the musical genius that he is because he is such a humble and cool person. I now have all of Toto's CD's, some of Luke's solo works and the like.

I have met some wonderful people, both famous and infamous, because of this forum and Big Poppa. Thanks a million for all the good times we have had and will continue to have in the future.

To me, the really cool part is, I have met many of you guys personally. Kbaim came out to see me in San Diego and it was like meeting my long lost brother. OC in New York lives a stone's throw away from my in-laws and is one of the coolest guys out there. Tommy is a fabulous guitar player and a great instructor (see Open House vid....;) ), NorM is tall, great guy, and can play his a$$ off. Boveinhost has helped me in more ways than I can mention and I love him for it. I cannot mention everyone or I will be here all day.

One of the best talents out there that I would have never known had it not been for this forum is Tristan. I absolutely love his playing and videos. I would love to sit down with him one day to chat and play guitar....but I would mostly be watching.

The one thing I can always say about the endorsed artists.....they have a family appeal to them. They come on here to talk to us and let us know what is going on and are kind enough to take time out of their busy schedule to do so. Thanks a million! I sincerely appreciate it.

Thanks for the stories behind the artists BP. My only question, how did Dave LaRue get with EBMM. He keeps me practicing on bass on a daily basis.

Well who would have thought a brief moment of boredom at work would result in a flood of really cool information and some good old healthly back slapping :D

Thanks to everyone who answered especially BP and Tristan (got to agree with Koogie, Tristan you are truly a fantastic player!). I am fairly new to the EBMM family but I agree, it really does feels like a family, certainly a group of guys and gals who are are deeply passionate about EBMM and the artists that play them!!

I hope you enjoy tomorrows bored-at-work-topic...."Does my ASS look big in this" ;)

There´s still one left....what about Benji Madden?
How come MM and Benji work together?

I know Benji was playing a Silo to begin with. Really, with the popularity of Good Charlotte, it was a no-brainer. Him playing the Silo introduced EBMM to millions even if they did not play guitar.

BP,

I know of your lack of love, but forgive my ignorance, who is she in relation to EVH? and what did she do (business wise not whatever caused the issue between you)

I remember there was someone had bought a purple EVH from her??

PS - if you think this will sour this thread and get people talking about EVH please feel free to delete this, that would never be my intention.

EBMM is the coolest company out there. In 2005, I met Gary Hoey at a show in CA and he hooked me up w/ a NAMM pass. While there, I met w/ EBMM and they've taken care of me since. At this past NAMM, I played one of their Axis SS models on display (most companies don't even bother to bring lefty guitars) and just yesterday I have UPS at my door dropping off the axe.

Thanks again, EBMM!!
