Yes, Lew, those two albums are the only two that are documented as recorded with the EBMM. Who's to say that he didn't throw down on one on III and didn't credit it, etc.? Side note: Judgment Day was the last song recorded with the old Kramer 5150.

As far as EBMM's in the videos:

Poundcake: Frankenstrat-striped-EBMM, yellow quilt that was usually played live
Runaround: Frankenstrat-striped EBMM, yellow quilt, purple quilt, what appears to be a sunburst quilt (filmed in black and white) during the solo, and the purple quilt doubleneck
Right Now: not sure...two shots, both in black/white, one very close up, but they're EBMM's
Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do): yellow quilt, with "5150" added on body behind tremelo
Can't Stop Lovin' You: same
Not Enough: this one was the first one with the Wolfgang, had a 5150 4x12 in it, 5150II head, and the 5150 como...can you say product placement? :D

Wasn't the yellow quilted with "5150" on it, the same yellow quilted one he used on the Right Here Right Now dvd, and was he's main guitar for the couple of years he was with ernie ball?

I loved Ed's tone when he was with Ernie Ball, but when he went to Peavey, his tone took a major nose dive.

First off, it's good to have the Best Of Vol. I DVD to cheat... :)

Second, yes, the yellow quilt was his #1, used in the videos, as mentioned as well as pretty much any tiem that homesickle picked up a guitar. Later on, he added the 5150 to it.

There's one exception that I know of that he didn't use the yellow quilt; there was a PPV show of a Toronto concert that he used a yellow flame, pictured below, also with the 5150 inscribed on it.

Not sure if it was just for that show, or if there were others that this was used for...this is the only documented, or at least what I have, etc.

Enjoy folks...

Thanks man, l wasn't sure if it was a new guitar with 5150 on it, or the old one.

That PPV toronto concert was great, l'll have to pull it out and watch it.

I believe the Peavey defection happened after Balance was recorded and during the video making phase. The final video made was Not Enough, hence the Wolfie, and a black Wolfgang also appears in the Humans Being video. Not all of F.U.C.K was recorded with the EBMM though. I know that Judgement Day was the last track he used the original Kramer Frankenstrat on. Much of the tone changes that took place are production related. F.U.C.K was recorded with a bit too much compression for a start. Van Halen 3 was just bdly produced and mixed. I can't think of a worse produced album despite liking quite a lot of it. Eddie did all the production on hte new tracks for "The Very Best Of" but he should probably stick to his day job...

Yeah the Wolfgang was in Prototype stage when they were on the Balance tour, thats also a prototype in the Not Enough video. By the time The humans being video came out the Wolfgangs were finished.

There was actually a rumour going around that Ed used the Custom Audio Electronics 3+ pre-amp for alot of F.U.C.K. I think the intro of Runaround was done on a 12 string.

Although there are alot of rumours about Van Halen.

Who's got another rumour?????

Scott.

Nah, Brent, Eddie's just in mid solo there.. I wasn't trying to cap him, I was trying to get a good shot of the quilt for my little anklebiters. :D

Ali, I just said that about judgment Day...you did read my post, right? ;)

Not sure when the transition was, but yes, Ali, Not Enough was the first vid to have the Wolfgang in it.

Scott, I was always informed that it was a F****r Strat that was used for the Runaround intro, as well as F.U.C.K being done with a Soldano for the amp, which is what they based the 5150 off of. May be wrong about that last part though, but I'll take the F****r story to the bank. I should take it to the pawn shop, and get rid of it...one less Strat on the streets. ;)

I would research that on vhlinks, where there was a thread about that before, but their a** got hacked over the New Year's weekend...I mean, TORE UP, and the only backup that they had to restore the site was from like 2 years ago. (Let that be a lesson to all of you...BACK UP!)

As far as other rumors...there's a new one floating around (via me) that EVH likes limberger (sp?) cheese. :D

Yeah l knew it was a F*****r strat, but wasn't sure if it was a 12 or 6. I thought it might of been a 12.

Yeah thats pretty much common knowledge that Ed used the Soldano on F.U.C.K., but one of the rumours along time ago in a gallaxy far far away was that he used a CAE 3+ pre amp.

It's a shame what happen to the links though.

Nice rumour, but won't take your word for it. :p

Scott.

P.S. don't even think of that F word, it makes me upset, even angry at times, you even made me say it. :D :D

The Balance tour. Those were dark days for the boys. It was the beginning of the end. There manager Ed Leffler had died (he kept the boys in check), Ed was in a lot of pain waiting for hip surgery, they opened up for Bon Jovi in Europe and flopped so bad that Ed stopped doing solos, etc........ The picture shows he wasn't happy in my opinion.
I saw VH 3 times. 5150 - Awesome!!!! Balance - dark and missing something. Recent for the Fans tour - nice to see them, but not the same. Tensions were obvious despite some bad acting pretending they're all in love again. :(

VH opened for Bon Jovi? Man - that is a hard one to believe , I remember at one time at the height of grunge they were having a hard time filling out 18,000 set arenas but they were still headliners, whereas when I saw them a few years before they were filling out 30,000 seats. Still though - opening act for Bon Jovi - that must have been depressing.

Not a rumor at all, Bob Bradshaw(CAE) & John Suhr (preamp designer) were around in those days, and they gave Ed a prototype 3+ for use on the album. It WAS used on some trax. Ed gave it back, & they sent him a production model with the toroid transformer. He didn't like it as much, turns out the prototype had a Marshall type transformer...

Too much information, I know, but it's from Mr. Suhr himself.

Never TMI when discussing secrets of the tone behind the man, whichever that may be.

Unless you start spouting about something being better than EBMM on this board...THEN the hammer gets dropped. :)

Good insider info, J Doug! :)

A F***er Telecaster was used for Runaround. F***er sent it to him as a gift in hopes of scoring a sig guitar from him after Kramer went T**S up. He of course went with EB, but kept the Tele and used it on Runaround and one other song on Carnal Knowledge for the rhythm parts (I don't remember which one right now). The Tele was Candy Apple Red.
