Favorite Funk Bass Line?

Good old Amazon USA. Just placed an order for 2 Slave albums, an Aurra one and a Pleasure double CD. Even if I could get these over here, in Rip-off Britain, they would be 30% more expensive. Great recommendations guys. 2-3 weeks wait and I'll be grooving along with these tracks. :)

Does the 30% include the import duty and VAT that's going to be slapped on when it's delivered to your door?

I play that ALL THE TIME.

Plus, if you're in the right key, you can play that bass line to a completely different song. Try it sometime - play the bass line to "I'll Take You There" behind the tune "Feelin' Alright" and tell me it doesn't work.

I do it sometimes to drive people insane.

Then play the bass line to It's My Life by Talk Talk when the rest of the band is playing Losing My Religion (R.E.M.)

- Cissy Strut by The Meters
- Jungle Boogie by Kool and the Gang

Both simple for a beginner like me, both funky as my Beagle on a hot summer day.

Something about the simplicity and groove of Sex Machine always got me going - BUT, and I know this ain't funk, but funky nonetheless...

Flea's fretless playing on Alanis Morisette's "You Oughtta Know". From what I read or saw in an interview, the song was lacking bigtime, and they asked him to come in and lay something down. He came in, just kinda jammed through the song, and that was it.

This post made me think of "Funkier than a Mosquita's Tweeter" by Ike & Tina Turner, which is a pretty damn funky tune, it's own damn self.

Let's not forget Rickie Lee Jones "Danny's All Star Joint."

"they got a juke box that goes doyt doyt" - Rickie Lee Jones

Chuck Rainey! was the man on that one, right? Great "slap" tone, but I'm not sure that he's really slappin.

Kenny Gradney of Little Feat.

the live "Spanish Moon" is a simple, dirty, killing line.

the kind of line that demands to be played over ...and over....

I think it's pretty much the whole song, actually.

How forgetful of me...2 words. Oakland Stroke. Funk so think you could cut it with a knife.

Funky Bass Lines...

I'll throw another "Bone" in there...T-Bone Wolk's bass line on Hall and Oates "Method of Modern Love".

Pure Groove!

Fishbone does a great cover of Freddie's Dead!

Plus, Norwood Fisher (Warwick Thumb advocate) doesn't get enough mention as a bass player.
