I play that ALL THE TIME.

Plus, if you're in the right key, you can play that bass line to a completely different song. Try it sometime - play the bass line to "I'll Take You There" behind the tune "Feelin' Alright" and tell me it doesn't work.

I do it sometimes to drive people insane.

Then play the bass line to It's My Life by Talk Talk when the rest of the band is playing Losing My Religion (R.E.M.)

Flea's fretless playing on Alanis Morisette's "You Oughtta Know". From what I read or saw in an interview, the song was lacking bigtime, and they asked him to come in and lay something down. He came in, just kinda jammed through the song, and that was it.
