favorite solo

1. Steve Morse - Guitar Solo on Total Abandon (1999)
2. David Gilmour - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
3. Brian May - These Are The Days Of Our Lives
4. None ("Eric Clapton can´t play guitar" Ritchie Blackmore, quoted by Ian Gillan on the Come Hell Or High Water video, 1993)

Hi Rose, nice to see you here. HAHA, you're defenseless here without your shovel. :D

1- Vai - For the Love of God. Sorry, of course you know I love Morse on Hereafter (and many others), but FTLOG is an absolute masterpiece and goose-bumper.

2- Page - end solo in Stairway to Heaven. C'mon, it's a classic that he improvised on the spot. IMHO, a magical musical moment that fortunately was captured on tape.

3- Hendrix - Little Wing. Another classic. Like Page, Hendrix wasn't the most precise and polished guitarist, but he stands out for "what" he played, not "how" he played it.

4- EVH - Eruption. Eddie practically re-invented rock guitar, and this track led the way. I've heard that when they were still playing the clubs around this time, Eddie used to turn his back to the crowd sometimes so other guitarists wouldn't steal his ideas.

That quote had the rest of the band shaking their heads in disbelief. Surely you don't think Clapton can't play?

you´re right, they were shaking their heads. hey you are good!

I was kidding, because I couldn´t compare EC, Satch and EVH. They are all good in what they are playing, hard to name a favorite. Of course I don´t belive that Clapton can´t play.

Ted - Wang Dang Sweet Poon Tang live...

Always loved the raw energy that builds throughout the solo.

1. steve morse : silhouette in disguise
2. jeff beck : bulgaria
3. eric johnson : venus reprise
4. van halen : jump

Favorite solo, man what a hard question to answer.

I always dug Luke's solo on Animal. Well just put me down for any Luke solo.

EVH - Not Enough. Always gave me goose bumps.

I have to think more, I'll add more later.

Scott.

Rose,
Yep, I knew you'd post eventually. Stir the pot, as usual. Hey, Adwex, I have her shovel right here.
Janice

Hi I'm Rose (get it Janice)(I'll tell the story another time :p)

I was going to ask everyone what their favorite guitar solo would be but then I thought geee that might be too broad of a question.

So.. Between
1. Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Pertucci? Favorite solo?

2. Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Jimi Page? Favorite solo?

3. Eric Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Brian May? Favorite solo?

4. Satch, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen? Favorite solo?

Mine are: Hmmmm I'm thinking I'm thinking...
This isn't easy. haha I'm trying to think how to change around the names so I would have one from each group. :D

Ok for number 1 I would have to say Morse with Hereafter even though I think For the Love of God is amazing.

For 2 Gilmour - Comfortable Numb

For 3 Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover

For 4 I am going with Eddie with Eruption. I love when it changes at the 57 sec mark.

Stay well.

1. "Wishful Thinking" John Petrucci
2. "Black Dog" Jimmy Page
3. "Little Wing" Jimi Hendrix
4. "Eruption" Van Halen

but if I got to choose two of each :)

1. "Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming" Steve Morse
2. "Stairway to Heaven" Jimmy Page
3. "Cliffs of Dover" Eric Johnson
4. "Ten Words" Joe Satriani
and i'm still not satifsfied. Of course the solo's played on balls are the best:D

I believe that each of them have many LEGENDARY SOLOS, the Another Brik On The Wall, and Comfortably Numb solos are impressive, but for example, what about the solos on Dark Side Of The Moon, they also have great taste, just as I believe many of the Steve Vai records, have solos that awaken a real medieval dragon in them, bringing power in many of his executions. I would say that my favorites would be "All of the Above", in their individual Atmospheres.

1) JP for "The Spirt Carries On"...I get chills when I hear that and I listen to it alot!
I do love "For The Love of God" and "Tumeni Notes" though!

2) Gilmour for the entire "Wish You Were Here" album. A friend of mine complimented Mr. Gilmour once by saying he "says more with one note than most other guitarist do with thousands".
Mr. Page is fantastic on Stairway and many, MANY other songs and in the end, this could be a tie.

3) Jimi on "Bold as Love" and "Little Wing". Wins hands down...'Nuff said.

4) Satch - Always With Me, Always With You. One of the most beautiful guitar instrumentals I've ever heard. I can see my kids playing in the sun everytime I hear that song.
EVH probably made me want to play more than any other guitarist of that time
Clapton/Cream...White Room!

1.Steve Vai for the love of God

2. Jimi Page- Since I've been loving you

3. Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile not so much for the solo but the whole song - US national anthem at Woodstock was great too!!

4. Eddie Van Halen- Jump

I gotta add Mr Big by Free - a great guitar solo, a great bass solo and great singing
