Can't close it, We need to help this poor fellow out, Someone had told him one day that Ric's acted like a Bass when you played them, We just need to let him know, he's on the right page, He's just talking about the wrong bass.

See most of us who had a Ric at one time and owned a fireplace end up using it for winter heat, He's probably just young.

I expected some respect and straight answers. Instead I get "this is the M/M board, what did you expect". I guess if anyone has a problem with their M/M bass, don't come here to ask questions? Is this how M/M treats it's past/present and future customers?

I compared my basses. Forgive me.
The problem is you came here spouting off things as facts when they weren't. If your intention was to gain clarification for yourself, there are better ways to go about it. You could have actually just asked point blank, "What is EBMM's finishing process?" Instead of trying to impugn EBMM on their own sight with a fallacious comparison.

I'm only 17 and i've never owned a Rick nor have I desired one.

Thank God. :D

Man, you just posted this thread out of nowhere. We take pride in our basses. We come here to talk about them exclusively. Not bash them. We show some respect to the people that PAY for these forums. My apologies. I'm usually a calm person but step back and take a look at it. Frankly, I don't think anyone cares to talk about Rickenbackers here. Take it elsewhere.

Andrew

Exactly why there are other forums dedicated to discussing any bass that you own or have tried out. This is an exclusive forum, paid for by the CEO for that matter (an old subject; not BP that is :D).

We've all been guilty of discussing other brands here, but when someone says 'enough', we usually respect that wish.

It's just proper protocol.

I am completely missing the reason for discussing Rics in comparison with Stingrays. Rics are probably the most un-Stingray-like bass I can think of. They are fine basses if that's what you need tonewise, but on the complete opposite side of the spectrum from Stingrays, Sterlings and Bongos. I wouldn't mind picking up an older Ric to add to my collection, but I honestly can't think of when I would ever play it.

I had a 4003 twenty years ago. I sold it and got a '78 Stingray, and I've been addicted to Stingrays ever since.

I've had close to 30 EB basses, and I've never had a single one that was lacking anything in the finish department. They were all 100%. I don't ever remember anyone else having any issues regarding the finish quality on basses from the EB factory.

To me, this is a complete non-issue. I could take any EB bass out of the case from the factory, tune it up, and jump on stage. I could possibly do the same thing with a Ric, but I wouldn't because I just don't like playing them (I think they look pretty cool - in a retro way - though)

The point is about the finish. That was the comparison. I'm done with the questions guys. Obviously came to the wrong place.

I seemed to have missed your "question".

what are you trying to accomplish? Are you saying that the process is greater than the result? You bought a bass from Guitar Center that was damaged ( Im sure that you got a discount for the ding) and now we hear all of the negative stuff regarding our quality and processes.

No discount. It had just arrived. It was in it's box, never opened. No matter. I pretty much have gotton my answer from all the responses.

ricplayer, understand, when it comes to questions about EBMM and their products, we can be defensive. I understand what you are getting at, just went about it, IMHO, the wrong way. Like I said earlier, look at the Opne House pics and you will see the same attention to detail is taken in EBMM's process as it is in other "High End" manufacturer's process.

Personally, I love EBMM's and would not go to another product line. Why? Because I am totally satisfied with EBMM's. That's me.

To ask questions on this forum is fine. Just not giving the 100% facts on EBMM processes presented a problem. I was hoping to shed light on the subject for you with my offer of checking out the Open House pics.

Jongitarz is an employee and the only repair guy at the factory. He not only fixes or sets up our guitars/basses, but does so for the artists. He takes tremendous PRIDE in his and EBMM's work and it is insulting to state that HIS work and the work of his fellow employees is sub-par. I am sure you can understand what I am getting at. Jon is a super cool dude who I had the honor of meeting. He helps us out on his time, which says a lot for the company in itself. But it only gets better, we have just about ALL the employees on here talking to us and helping us out. No other company has the CEO on the forums daily like Big Poppa.

His Customer Service is second to none. Period. He worries (far too much in my opinion) about whether or not YOU or I am satisfied. Just as much as he worries that his artists are satisfied. Believe me, I know this to be fact. His generosity is something that we all could learn from and I have the utmost respect for him and for all who work at EBMM.

I believe I have shown you respect and have tried to help you out as best as I can. I hope this helps. This is a great place to hang out.

Oh ok, I read that thread and replied early on. I see lots of "answers" in that thread from lots of people, perhaps not the answers you wanted to hear but answers none the less.

I have a question for you.

During your attempts to get rid of the deadspots on your neck did you remove the neck from the body at all and if so, is it "possible" that you put the ding on the body yourself?

Never removed it. Adjusted the truss rod a bit, set the intonation, which was way off, adjusted string height for my style. All these adjustments helped. I did all these adjustments BEFORE I called c/s. Also, all the basses hanging at GC were not set up correctly, IMO. String height varied from bass to bass...bowed necks. I guess their "bass guy" did not know how to set up basses properly. This was approx 1 year ago. GC had about 12 M/M sting rays and sterlings.

I bet the same was true on every brand they had hanging on the wall correct? I've encountered that in most music stores I've walked into (GC's as well as most Mom & Pops).

This is not a manufacturer problem.

I understand this, but my bass did not come off the wall...it was opened right in front of me out of the original shipping box. But the sound...just need that lowend so I have found another dealer on the internet, NOT GC and we are working out a deal.

I think everyone gets a little touchy around the holidays. There's nothin wrong with comparing your instruments, and there also isn't anything wrong with asking us about our finishing process. We're all hanging around in customer service waiting for questions to come in like these and we're always happy to answer them. If you are unclear on something, please come to us before posting negative and taunting threads on a company-sponsored site, that's all.
