Just wanted to say hi. I finally acquired a StingRay5 after lusting after one for over 10 years. I saw one in pretty good shape pop up locally on eBay, so I pulled the trigger.

S/N is E22693, which I gather from Gav's index is from around May of 01. It has the Burnt Apple finish (quite nicer than the eBay pics, I must say) and a rosewood fretboard and matching headstock. The pickgaurd is black, but I'm probably going black pearl with that eventually.

Boy, I should have bought one of these sooner. It sounds absolutely gorgeous. I'm playing through a Bellari tube compressor (their basic two-knobber) into my late-60's Ampeg B-15N with 350B output tubes from the 50's (the absolute world class of 6L6 types), and NOS military RCA preamp tubes.

The seller says that EB told him there were only about 100 of those built that year, but I could give a rat's arse about rarity. The thing just smokes my old G&L. And that's saying something...

Anyway, I came here looking for a quick answer on the selector switch, which I found using the search, and figured I'd say Hi.

Hi.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the StingRay 5. That burnt apple is one smokin hot finish. Go with the black pearliod.

Thanks for the welcomes.

The only pics I've got are the terrible ones from eBay. I was pleasantly surprised when I went to pick the bass up, expecting a diner seat sparkle red finish. Worked out, as it saved me a paint job, and kept other bidders away. (well, that and the fact that-other than this one-he only took pics of the damaged areas!-slight bumps and rash on the back)

Welcome, Noob! Whoa, Jack is gonna like you.....you did a SEARCH even before posting! You are probably his new best friend! Congrats on the SR - I'll bet it really gets a warm, phat tone with the B-15N! :D

Welcome, Ben. I'm Jack. I had a Burnt Apple Pie Ray once upon a time, a four string version. Those are really nice finishes in person, and hard to photograph well.

Yeah, I think working without a flash would be the only way to really get that right, and the light would still be tricky.

Thanks as well for the welcome.

Nice Ray and welcome to the forums. You definitely made a friend with Jack in using the "Search" first. Maybe he'll explain all that to you later.
What are you doing on the computer? Now go play that beauty!
