The first 5 production EVH's came with a brown back instead of the usual black. They were made mid 1991. Dudley may have serial number info from that time period.

Trans Blue was offered from the beginning on both the EVH and continued on with the Axis model. The hand stained EVH tended to fade and can on occasion look teal or green.

Trans Teal is a stock color on Stingray basses and was briefly offered on the Axis around 2002. It is now discontinued.

Thanks Derek. That makes sense. 2002 was about the time I really started investigating EBMM, since that's when I got my first Axis. I knew I saw Trans Teal offered on an Axis, if even for a short time.

So Jim, you were absolutely right in that there was never a Trans-Teal EBMM/EVH, and I stand corrected.

I think these faded EVH's look simply STUNNING. I think they look much more attractive and have much more character than the normal 'unfaded' colors.

By the way, am I correct in assuming my 99 trans orange Axis will fade hardly if at all? Or is it worth it putting the body it out in the sun from time to time ;)

The fades are due to the dyes that were first used in production...they were changed/adjusted later in the process, and the problem was gone.

Even if you were to put it directly under a McDonald's heat lamp, the chances of you getting a faded effect with newer guitars would be close to nil. You'd just be heating up your guitar

...you want fries with that? ;)

You mean I can leave my 1995 EVH out of the Case in my livving room ( no direct sun!) and this will not affect it.
I mean my trans black has now a light greenish touch.

Hey Mack, It is an early one. I have had a few in the 80XXX range and I always found them to sound better. There is no explaination for this, but just enjoy her!:)

I had a trans amber - 80161, I agree with you it did sound different/better to me. I don't know if its true or not but someone told me once they changed the pickup wiring/windings slightly after the 1st 200 or so were out?
