Thks for the nod Dwells.... that's why I'm buying it to hopefully hear amazing Morse.
As fantastic as DP are live and all incredible musicians I don't think DP stretch Morse enough whereas these solo projects/Dregs/SMB/Angelfire/Living Loud etc really bring him out

You just made my wait more agonising LOL

Cheers Baz

Great album best think portnoy has done since DT by far and morse is amazing on it

yeah! i read some time ago that Steve Morse, Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy will work together. Looking forward. this teaser sounds/looks good!

edit: is Steve really playing Orange & Mesa Boogie here?

Check FC website, Steve answered questions and one of them was about amps he used on this album:

Steve Answers! Part II | Flying Colors

Btw. there are answers from other Flying Color musician. Very interesting.

Have you had a chance to listen to any of Neal Morse's albums? Mike plays on almost all the studio albums. The one I like the best is "Question." Mike seems like he's really on fire on that album, plus Roine Stolt, Steve Hackett and Alan Morse play some great guitar on it.

I'm listening to it right now and it's really amazing. I'm a HUGE Steve Morse fan and I love the way he pulls some things out in this album that just don't sound like him. I'm guessing that because he didn't produce it like he does with SMB/Dreggs records it has a completely different guitar tone. It's still him definitely though!

The record is heavily influenced by Neal Morse's lyrical and melodic style but it's has more edge and emotion than I found in any of his Spock's Beard or Transatlantic recordings.

Casey McPherson seems to have a voice that could probably sing anything. He does a great job conveying emotion in his voice.

Portnoy is not as busy overplaying nor is he too up front in the mix. Hard core drummers may be disappointed? You can actually forget that it's him on the drums...for a little while.

Can't forget Dave LaRue. I frequently use the analogy of Ginger Rogers w/Fred Astaire. Ginger had to be a better dancer because she did everything Fred did going backwards and wearing a dress. Well, Dave LaRue has to play everything Steve Morse does but on a bass! Dave get's some solo's and some features. Very aggressive at times both with his playing and tone.

Been listening to this all day and I love it. It's $9.99 on iTunes, just go buy it. If you're not sure, spend .99c on "Forever in a Daze" or "Shoulda Coulda Woulda"

This album is great. I love the line-up and there really does seem to be some good chemistry between band members. Great stuff.

I fully agree with your review. Every time I hear Dave LaRue, I am amazed.
"Shoulda Coulda Woulda" is great, "Kayla", "All Falls Down" are also a good choice !

Honestly... I was very pumped up for this album and I didn't like it :( some incredible chops on it but a bit too short in musical content. I'd be in for a followup though, if they allow themselves more than just 9 days.

I like the album, not every track is my favorite, but then there are some that just exceed all of my expectations. Like Infinite Fire, that song is prog gold! Every musician is on fire on it and the vocals are very Yes like.

Not sure what you mean by "short in musical content." Care to elaborate for us?
