I didn't do any extra exercising other than my new job.

I am unable to run, do jumping jacks, or walk for long distances with my knee. War wound and all that....

The key for me was diet.

Studies have shown that extra or more intense exercise can hinder the weight loss effort. Ritchie did it right with calorie restriction. Takes will power for sure. I lost 45 lbs 3 years ago and went back to most of my "bad" ways. Gained most of it back. Seeing Ritchie's before and after makes me want to try again!

That's great BP. I am motivated again. I went from 38 to 34 and now at 36. Kept all the 34s anticipating my return. 34s - here I come!

YOu know Eggie just so let it get to the 36's...it's so much easier.....The problem is that we all have to realize that it is really a lifestyle change and that is something that as we get older becomes more critical...Im as hyper and energetic as a 20 year old but my metabolism is 54

Well - easier yes - but there is some extra that I would like to pare off. once in a while the 36s feel a bit tight.

As a nice little bonus for me, Patty is within 5 pounds of what she weighed when we got married.

And within 15 pounds of what she weighed when she was 19!!

NICE!!!!! :D

I'm with you dude, I went from 228 Lbs down to 185 and I am now back up to 200. I took 18 months to lose the 40+ keep in mind it took 25+ years to put in on. Kind of slipped off the plan, I started back on Oct 1 and plan to be back to 190 by Christmas. It takes between 3-6 weeks to alter one's metabilism, my secret: diet (+1) moderate exercise (walking, light cycling, snowshoeing) and only weigh myself twice per year.
To the OP, great job

Man that's great! I'm on a "diet" too. I know this won't sound like I needed to be but I was at 195lbs in Mid August, I weighed myself this morning and I'm at 170 and still going. That's a lot of weight for me since I'm not a big framed person. I aint gonna lie, most of it was pure gut from drinking beer everyday lol. I started the P90X workout out program September 1st, and it's made a huge difference. I don't recommend it for everyone because it's very intense and it can be a high impact workout at times. The main trick is the diet, keep it down to below 3000 calories a day, and eat 5 times a day(small meals). That will boost your metabolism up and help you shed the weight off. Of course you have to change your eating habits completely, but the results are well worth it. I don't really have any before and after pics yet, since I'm only 39 days inot a 90 day workout program, but here's a little glimpse of my progress. The first pic is what I looked like before the diet, notice the gut and the fat face. I just took the second pic and you can see the guts completely gone and the face is no where near as fat.

Before.

P90X is a great workout routine. I have been through one cycle - got very strong - maybe some of my weight gain is muscle mass. I think I will start another 90 day session soon. Hard to find 90 minutes a day - but you are right - well worth the effort.

Great info here... I definitely have to get away from eating two times a day to five times. Change of lifestyle indeed, and it is hard...

Lookin' great Ritchie.

I need to reign in my calorie intake too. I was doing very well with it 2 years ago.. dropped 23 pounds in a few months. Then I lost my dietary discipline and put most of it back on over a year's time. Started working on it again very recently and hope to drop 30 pounds this time.

Lookin good Ritchie! I start a program myself back in January and have lost almost 50 pounds. I'm turning 40 later this year and wanted to meet this milestone feeling healthy and strong.

My music room now contains a treadmill and a free weight gym and I put in about 4-5 hours a week of good solid exercise along with a huge change in eating habits. I was really out of shape and overweight for most of my 30's and I can say I fell better then I have since my early 20's.

I still have the odd binge of bad food, but I worked so hard to get in shape that I just don't have the same desire for huge quantities of bad food as I used to. I had a fatty liver and was on the verge of being diabetic back in January. My doctor tells me now that my labwork looks like that of a 20 year old athlete and he figures I added 30 year to my life.

If any of you fellow knuckleheads are thinking about making a serious change in lifestyle, all I can tell you is that the rewards and boost in self esteem you will enjoy far outweigh the effort it will take to get there. :)
