Just to remind you:

This forum is owned by one person (who pays the bandwidth btw)
Moderated by a few
And visited by most of us.

I´m a visitor and as such I behave like one - like in real life.
Thanks and a peaceful 2009

one man's opinion

There's a difference between trying to help a newcomer with a friendly nudge about the rules of the schoolyard, and being an armchair mod. However, since they are interpreted as being the same, I let newcomers figure it out for themselves.

As for the for sale sticky, I personally find multiple over-sized images more of a pain than the marginal chit chat that goes on, cuz those large images take so long to load the page.

Please bring it back and make it as a sub forum with every item has its own thread.
So people can comment or asking about the selling item without disturbing others.

This is the best way to handle it. This way the mods and BP can go about taking care of other more important responsibilities than worrying about the who said what and how many times in the for sale thread...................................What are IT people paid for anyway.

Then the sale thread should be closed for good.

Trust me, they'll start to chit chat again. It happened before and it'll happen again and again.

I'd say that if it keeps happening, the For Sale Thread would be permanently closed, but I'm just guessing.

If you abuse it, you lose it. The only easy answer is don't post any comments in the FS thread.

Since it's the eye candy that draws the commentaries, what if we could still post what we're selling, but interested parties could IM the seller for pictures? It's also the eye candy that eats up bandwidth. Everyone here by now is very well acquainted with how each model looks, and if not, there's the MM website.

But, let me add to that...

it also removes a very cool Music Man guitars magazine from the site. I mean, people don't really buy Playboy for the articles.

I feel like we do deserve a time-out. It's definitely been abused. The other thing that gets me is the same guitars that are frequently posted for sale. It's not ebay- give it a shot, leave it a bit. Try again. (I usually put it up and bump it once. Beyond that, it's off to ebay.) It's frustrating to see the same guitars come up a dozen times. That really doesn't seem like what the thread is for. But that's just me.

You are right I did. The closure is partially my fault, sorry.

Paranoid, it's cool man. Hope you take my comment lightheartedly. I was ranting a bit yesterday.

My basic gripe is that people repost the large IMG jpg files. More folks need to use Quick Reply more often, and alot less quoting. Cause quoting reposts the pics. Heck, I can remember what someone said........even for 5 to ten minutes. Not bad for an old guy huh?

In the publics defense.....

Most forums use the format where each "item" gets it's own entry. The EBMM forum is definitely the oddity not the norm. Most people are used to this way of doing things. I, myself, had to become conditioned here and it took some restraint; still does.

i don't understand why "this" thread has gotten so long. Its pretty cut and dry, only post "for sale items" in the "for sale" thread. I think its pretty simple guys...we don't need to bang our heads together coming up with some great idea or way to dance around the issue. We're not trying to solve the auto industry crisis or cure diseases its simple stuff. Imagine if you purchase a "Car Trader" magazine because your after a 1959 VW Rag Top with side pop out windows and a rear oval. How many pages would the mag be if you had to sift through all the comments about someones 65' Mustang and whether or not its a factory stick shift....or someone elses Chopped Top 1951 Ford and having to read through the comments that the welds weren't done right. By the time you worked your way to the VW section gasoline vehicles would be obsolete. Common sense isn't common knowledge....lets all step up our game :)

Happy New Years guys!

Speaking of irony.... the guitar I purchased from the 'For Sale Thread' just arrived. Will post pics later. ;)

Thanks Island Boy.

I'm a new guy to this forum, I just started posting last week. I will say, from an "outsiders" point of view, while the random comments/PM Sent posts are a bit annoying, they don't totally ruin the thread. That being said, I think the temporary closure of the thread is a good way to bring the problem to light before it gets so bad that there is only one actual guitar for sale per page with the rest being comments.

Lucky for me, I just sealed a deal this week with a forum member to buy a JP6 listed in the thread. I'll once again get to join the ranks of EBMM players! :D
