I've had a Jp 6 for over a year now and I can't seem to explain what I feel. I find this guitar very hard to play. I've played Ibanez, Fender, Gibson etc. I use 10's but the strings feel much heavier than all my other guitars being very expensive or very very cheap. I've adjusted the neck etc. The only thing I can think is that the bridge has to be lowered a little as the action seems pretty high to me.

Are these guitars shipped setup perfectly???

thanks guys

The signature guitars ship with the same setup that the artists use, including string types. And them RPS strings ain't no cheap string! I love those things!

Check the EB FAQ on the main site's page for information on how to setup your JP.

Take it to a tech and have it set up. Also, maybe the JP isn't right for you, they say you either love it or hate it...

10's on a JP6 shouldn't feel heavy. If you are used to a G*bson or !banez, you may be used to a short scale guitar. Strings will feel looser on those, so there is not much grounds for comparison. You'd have to go to 13's or something on a short scale to get the same tension "feel" as 10's on a long scale.

That being said, my JP's are always set up with at least 11's and people ask if they're 9's. A setup isn't limited to just a neck adjustment. Bridge work is needed as well. Take it to a tech who has the proper tools and it shouldn't take them long. Balls are easy to adjust.

maybe you need to take out a spring and use 2 springs instead of 3, that will loosen it up a bit more

Can you measure string height on your 12th fret and on your 24th fret for me? I think its down at the lower frets that are the issue....

The base of the bridge sits pretty much flush with the body of the guitar. And yes, IMHO, these guitars are pretty much set-up perfectly from the factory.

I'm with you on this elvtnedge. However, I've never complained about it cos I dont see it as a problem. The strings on mine feel alittle tight, but IMO the guitar has a tight sound mayeb due in part to this. It's vastly improved my technique and playing. Other guitars kinda feel like toys to me. You have to be a man to play with your balls properly right? heehee

Anyhoo, 10's, 9's or just plain spaghetti, I don't care, I wanna see some pics!!

I find just the opposite, my JP6 plays easier and sounds better than my other guitars, except my 20th silo, which is arguably better on chording.

Yep, must agree 100%, never had a prob with my first JP and expect nothing different on the one I have coming, and amen on the 20th and chording:D

I think you need a good setup and either a spring taken out or a switch to .09's . I go back and forth about how I feel about .010's. Some days I love them and some days they feel stiff and I consider changing to .09's. I think on 'stiff' days, I am just being lazy... LOL...

One thing is for sure, Ernie Ball sets up their guitars perfectly in my opinion. I remember I was at a local Guitar Center, and I was lucky I saw one since they never sell them, and I could play the Petrucci for hours. I was very happy with the tone that came out of it and how it was setup. I thought at the time the strings were very high on the neck, but I am used to it now.( Had weak fingers back then ), and on my current guitar, i thought at the time the strings were high on the neck, and I planned to get it adjusted, I just got used to it over time and I don't have a need to adjust it. Overall, it is the best guitar I've ever played. Definitely going to buy one once I get the money together :)

white strat you deleted the pic but then continued to promote.

Just for the record they have been selling strings for less than a year and I will challenge you to back up your claims of decreased tension at pitch...it is marketing you are eating. I have a little experience here......
