As you know, I have my HH/P Bongo fiver and I'm loving it! I am now on the hunt for something else.

I need a 4-string, gospel/funk/R&B slap machine -- I want it to be active.

I am this close to buying a F**nder Marcus Miller but I wanted to solicit you guys opinions first. I know we aren't supposed to quote prices here but I will say that I don't want to spend four figures.

I don't know the MM line well enough to choose but I would rather NOT buy another Bongo.

I welcome your thoughts.

You could get an active SUB or SUB Sterling. The active SUB has a 2EQ cut/boost and the SUB Sterling (only comes in active) has a 3EQ. They're great basses for the money!

What about a HH Sterling or Stingray? I'd love to own a HH buttercream Sterling but unfortunately that ship has sailed.

Don't get a Marcus Miller. I had one. They're disappointing basses. Why not just a stock Ray or Sterling?- or maybe a G&L L-2000?

The Miller does look kind of kooky with the maple fingerboard and block inlays

Ah, you sly fox! I see what you did there. You edited your post! My post has no meaning now. It is so sad and lonely. :(

H/S SR4. That would be killer for the stuff you're playing. Or maybe even a standard SR4?

No it's not -- it still has value! LOL!

Yeah, I did edit ... I don't want to break any rules about discussing price here.

Stingray. Next question?

What he says.^^^

But in all fairness, a friend of mine has a Marcus Miller, and it's a hawt bass. I would just rip that worthless preamp out of it and use it passive though. Oh, and it weighs like a hundred pounds.

Thats exactly what I thought. There simply isnt a better slap machine bass than a StingRay. Heck I know that, and I dont even slap.:D Seriously, test drive some Rays and Sterlings when you get the chance.

+1! If you want old school thump, throw a set of flats on there, and you're set.

If you don't want to spend $XXXX amount on a new 'Ray, at least score a used one.

I personally prefer an untouched new bass whenever I can afford it.

Wait, didn't you order from Jack? You can bet that The Dude is gonna lick the heck out of that thing and that's MUCH WORSE than anyone touching it. :p :D

To me it sounds like you need a StingRay.

So a StingRay 4 would be perfect for me right? :p Don't think it could take my SR5s spot though.
