I got to see him live in 1983, opening for Rush(!) on the Grace Under Pressure tour. Huge impact on this (then) high-schooler. His later blues work included possibly the best video we have of Albert King with a decent band. He was a gateway to the blues for me, much as SRV was in 1984 when Texas Flood came out. Digging into those deeper roots had a huge impact on me, as I later backed many blues legends out here on the west coast.

I remember *exactly* where I was when I first heard the opening line to "Still Got The Blues". I wanted *that* tone. Now my Gary Moore signature Les Paul means that much more. RIP Gary.

Still Got The Blues was the first song I played live on lead guitar when I was a teen. Empty Rooms might be the best rock ballad ever written. The solo tone gives me shivers every time. RIP Gary Moore.

Gary was and still is in my top 5 all time greats. I have most of his work from Colosseum II to now. Very sad and unexpected.

I saw Gary Moore during his metal period, opening for Def Leppard. i was totally blown away, never heard someone doing Al Dimeola style muted scale runs in rock like that. His solo before launching into "Nuclear Attack" was just a great piece of rock guitar heroism. that was 1982 and i still remember it like yesterday, that's the impact Gary Moore had on me.

Really saddened to hear of Garys passing, heartfelt sympathy for his family and friends; he will be missed by many.
A true guitar legend, may he rest in peace.

So sad to hear this...
I first encountered his playing when somebody played a music cassette (remember those?) of the 'Corridors of Power' album to me back in 1981- and I was totally blown away by the fire and the power that Gary had in his playing.
He became a big influence for me after that.

Gone too soon, way much too soon!

He will definately be missed in the music world.

I saw him open for Rush on the Grace Under Pressure Tour (way back in the day) !!
Mann, great player.

I have always regretted not buying a Gary Moore LP when they came out in 2001....
Hopefully can add one to my guitar collection (that would be the only non-MusicMan item permitted).

I have to say it is amazing the out pour of devastation being displayed all over the guitar community that is being shown on every forum, guitar site and all over Youtube. As one guy stated in a YT video he feels gutted which sums it up for me as well. I had written him on his site some years ago asking if he had any plans to tour the states anytime soon and he said it was just too expensive to tour here anymore. I was originally turned on to Gary by my friend Big Rob and vwe would watch live concert videos my favorite being Live Blues/ Ballads and Blues which was a concert and then a compilation of videos which you can still get on ebay as that is where I bought mine many moons ago. I have only seen two very short clips of Django Reinhardt and his blistering runs using just his index and middle finger something that Gary was also amazing at doing, and both of us would practice playing runs as fast as possible only using those fingers and would call it doing a Gary Moore. Kind of funny for someone that never really made it big in the states just what an impact he has had on every player here that matters. Their was a famous interview in Guitar World years back where they gave Yngwie a blind listening test at the end and Yngwie being Yngwie lol ripped everyone from Satch, Beck, and Hammet to name just a few and one person he did not rip and said was an excellent player was Gary Moore. On a lighter note the next issue had 4 pages of angry reader feedback with a cartoon drawing of God playing guitar on a cloud and Yngwie blindfolded on another, saying he was bending sharp lol.

Seriously Shocked, such a sad loss, the guy was so damm melodic and known for producing some great stuff.
Lucky to catch him live a few times, never a duff gig.

RIP Gary Moore, thanks for being a early influence and being one of my mothers fave players, if you meet her in heaven play her Still Got the Blues, she loved that song.

I'm shocked and saddened, RIP Gary.

He had such an influence on my early years of playing back in the 80's with his "Victims of the Future" and "Corridors of Power" albums.

A wonderful player who will be sadly missed. :(

Those were my early influences too. As mentioned in my earlier post, after seeing him blew away Def Leppard , I went straight to my local record stores and got those albums (on cassettes nevetheless)
