Well, after buying my first Bongo over the Summer (5HH in gloss black/black PG), I've found that my Stingray 5HH hasn't had much play time... In fact, very little play time at all.

As many here have realized before me, the Bongo is great fun to play and the tone/punch just can't be beat. In my application (YMMV), the Bongo just punches through the low end of the mix while making space for low keyboards and guitars...finding its own sonic space to "rule". An amazing instrument for sure that just grows on you...quickly.

So today I picked up a Desert Gold Bongo 5HS from our friends at TPB. I was thrilled to find this discontinued color available new and I'm really excited to play the HS! The bass ships with a black ice PG, but I called Dan at EB today to order a tort PG, which I think looks warmer/better with the Desert Gold finish.

In some way I'm pretty sure that Jack and others here had a hand in this....you all know who you are!

...um....thanks?

Next thing you know, I'll be wanting to put flats on my Bongos or some crazy thing...:)

in all seriousness, my main bass for a few years now has been an HH Desert Gold 5 (w/tort) and although there are constantly phases where I "think" I'm digging something more.... umm, no. It seems like the farther I try to get to something else, the Bongo keeps pulling me back, it just keeps pulling me back!! :D

So congrats on the new one and yes, it's in the blood for good now, no turning back.

Psychicpet,

It was your pic in this thread that helped "seal the deal" for me...

...that and my son's favorite color is orange and he thought Dad should be playing an orange bass.........kids! :D

Crikey! Who is that gotee'd man!!?? :p

glad to know I cold be of service! :D

it really is such a blast of a colour. like most Desert Gold owners will say, there are so many gigs and places we play that the one thing they'll remember when we come back around is "oh ya, you're the guy with that orange bass!" or "did you bring the orange bass with you?!"

I've had two Desert Gold Bongos and they were both great. I still can't remember why I sold this one:

The other one was a four banger and I'm not a real man so I like fivers better, but it sure was a pretty thing.

Let's have those photos! We don't have all night.

Okay, maybe we do, but still.

WOW!

The DG finish really is one you have to see to appreciate! Amazing look in person. Web pics are interesting, but until you see the finish in 3D, you can't really appreciate what it can do with varying light.

It may be another few days for pics...sorry!!
Hope that I'll make it worth the wait when I get 'em up here.

I've got to take the bass to my favorite tech to get it set up to my liking and then put on the strings I prefer (it needs help...its buzzy right now as delivered). I have cut off the strings and gave the fretboard a good oiling (it needed it, had a very dry and grey look to it!). In addition, this bass came with a Black Ice PG and since I don't care much for that guard I have a Tort guard on its way from EB.

In a few days, I will surely have the bass set up to my liking with new strings and new PG ....then.........PICS!!!

Can't wait!!!
