OK..I,m sure a few of you knuckleheads have been in this corner..I used to collaborate musically with a very talented man..great voice, good guitar/bass player..had the right stuff..lately..a few years..he,s taken a different road...voice is high pitched, nasally, and 4 letter words and f bombs are a normal...now divorced, and trying to be some sort of bad boy rock star persona..I care for the guy, because he was ,at one time, pretty special, and had a good crack at becoming a successful talent.how do you tell someone that their stuff is shite, and to get back to what they were good at....without completely distancing yourself from them.....or should I just mind my own business, and wonder...what if....which is where I,m at..

Be brutally honest. Tell him just what you said here. You care for him, but do not like who he's become...
You can't 'fix' him, but you can try to influence him to fix himself...
Good luck...

I have an old buddy I worked with a for over a decade, and in the end it was just too much work. His heart and talent were huge but massivley overshadowed by a failure to keep promises and admit fault for error, a pathological lying streak, all capped off with occasional flare ups of bipolar disorder and alcoholism. In the end, I wasn't comfortable in the same room any more. After our last work together I just stopped answering the phone. I'm proud of my part in the work we did together and I wish him love, health, and happiness but I'm done.
