The problem is that we've stop being ourselves.Going to be ourselves and if it doesn't come naturally, then we'll respectfully part ways.

Stanky (or anyone). NEVER NEVER NEVER give up yourself for anyone!!!!!! The only time this could even be remotely questionable is for your kids. But even then, they are way better off seeing you be you! It's the best thing you could do for yourself of anyone around you.

Sterling, you have my word that i'll party my ass off!!

You do that and you'll never regret it!

Had one more conversation.

It's over. It's not meant to be.

Now it's time for me to get over it. Life goes on.

Stanky, there are what? 6.5-7 billion people on this planet? Roughly half of them women? Trust me. There is someone out there that will knock your socks off and love everything about you. Especially being a musician!!!!
Hang in there and you'll see it's all for the better. Sometimes relationships are more of a habit then anything. Some habits are bad and need to be broken.

Chicks love musicians, especially bass players. When I was in college there were tons of girls that just loved bass players. Of course, it's their parents that have the shocked look on their faces  when they realize that their daughter is dating a musician. :D:D

I speak to both of you quite frequently. Never seen this one coming but you can deal with it. Both of you will. Let time tell the how it goes part.

Let's get to the desert and have some fun.

This is true. However, I found that it helps to have a degree in engineering. :)

And Stanky, just remember, plenty of time, plenty of fish.

Andrew, my man, it's never too late to have a happy childhood.

At your age, if you aren't insanely happy with how everything is going in a relationship, then bail out.

There's an old saying which I will paraphrase. Women marry men thinking they'll change, and they don't. Men marry women thinking they won't change, and they do.

Never buy a Ford thinking that someday you'll get around to changing all the parts and making it into a Chevy. It's always going to be a Ford. Which is not a bad thing, but you better realize early on that it's always going to be a Ford.

Jack

Oddly enough, I'm a Ford man. :)

Thanks everyone for all your support. I'll make it but it's going to be a long road.

What more can be said? Be yourself. Be true to yourself. The right girl will come along sooner or later.

It's tough man. Good vibes your way in getting over this and healing. In a weird way it must feel liberating at the same time, no? You and your future girlfriend/wife need to love and respect each other for who you are as individuals. W/o this the relationship is a sham and doomed for failure.

Stanky, if she can't handle you playing in a church band, you should explain to her what things would be like if you ramped things up a level and went the full sex, drugs and rock and roll musician lifestyle.

But seriously, if she expects you to be somebody different for her (other than if she wants you to dress like Spiderman or Rambo while playing Ravel's Bolero), walk away. Jack covered the reality of relationships pretty well in his post.

Good vibes your way up to Sweet Home Alabama. your post brought back some old, lost, memories. BP and Jack have it covered. I know it sucks HUGE now, but it won't for as long as you think. It will be a much different deal in a short time. Just BE YOU.

All of the above

Stank,
Everybody here is giving ya great advice. (Which helps nothing.)
Everybody here is your friend/buddy/pal/viewer/listener/fellow human...
That means EVERYTHING!
(These people are really solid folks, I am discovering, and BP is righter than right!!!)

A woman/songwriter I really cared about dumped me, saying,
"I realized what I was doing: I was f*****g the BASS PLAYER in my band!"
She said it like it was the worst mistake she ever made.:(

Then she hooked up with our guitar player....just before we went into the studio!
Had to move on up the musical food chain, I suppose.

I was sad, but I tracked and punched, and had enough time left to play on two other projects in the same studio complex during that week.
It hurt me a lot, (still does) but I did what I had to, and even had some fun.
You will do at least as much, and more.:D

And pretty soon she found out the guitarist couldn't keep a consistently steady tempo, let alone having the ability to play something over and over for more than 30 seconds. Bass players have long attention spans, which most women value highly.
