reading all of the excitement about NAMM this time of year sparks great memories of the NAMM show...

One of the funniest memories for me was being asked by a drummer if i wanted his autograph... he was doing a meet and greet and nobody was around.

Drummers make me laugh... :D

My greatest NAMM memory involves the Biff Baby's All Stars gig with Steve Morse, Albert Lee and EVH. It was awesome.

A close second was more recent. The guys from Orange County Choppers built a custom chopper for a guitar manufacturer that had a big booth at NAMM and upon unveiling the bike Paul Sr. started that baby up. Wow! I have heard some loud things at NAMM shows but that was the loudest! I'm sure the guys running around with the decibel meters were about to lose their minds.

Mine was meeting Albert Lee, twice.

The first time was in 1999 or 2000 and Albert was at the Ernie Ball booth signing Autographs. Eventually when he was done he wandered over towards the accessory set up where I was waiting for my buddy Richard. It still amazes me to think that I was the only one there next to him, but that was just my good fortune on that day. So, I made a simple joke about him finally "being let out of the cage" and the conversation started. I mentioned that I knew who he was because of his Signature Guitar but sadly I really didn't know too much about his playing. (knew he was a picker) We talked for a few minutes about music in general, playing/practicing guitar and he pointed me in the direction of some of his music that he thought I may enjoy. At the end he offered me an autograph, but I declined. I told him the 15 minutes I got to talk to him about music was worth more to me and that I couldn't wait to get home to check the music he mentioned.

The next year I go back to NAMM and sure enough Albert is there again. Just like the year before I return to the Ernie Ball booth to wait for my friend Richard. A few moments later Albert walks up and hands me an autograph with my name on it. Tells me he remembered me from the year before and wanted to know if I had checked out the music we talked about. I was so totally blown away!! He was the nicest and coolest guy I had ever met. To this day that Autograph is the only one I have of any musician.

I too have had the honor of meeting Al a few years ago when he was in Sacramento and he was such a great guy. I had a connection at the store and i got the opportunity to spend a few minutes talking to him after everyone had left and was completely blown away with how personable he was.

I've not had the opportunity to meet other EBMM artists... but i just have this feeling that they all can feel the family atmosphere that we so deeply enjoy about the company and they carry it over to their interaction with us.

At the Nashville show 4 or 5 years ago. I was lucky enough to get a pass to the Ryman to see a tribute to Les Paul. Steve Morse played that night and so did Johnny Hiland. Obviously, the night ended with Les Paul and his trio. He was awesome! He had a beautiful, tall, blond lady playing stand up bass. Part of the act was Les flirting w/her and making lots of risque comments back and forth.

great stories guys...

Here's a question for BP-
A lot of us forumites have had the opportuinty to meet musicians that have inspired us and our music style. Do you remember the first time you met someone who inspired your music style or someone that you looked up to? Care to share?

My best memory is a simple one.

I was at NAMM a few years ago, near the MM boothe, and Luke was around was surrounded by a bunch of fans etc so I just left him alone and played with the new guitars. Then Luke came up and said "hi" to me.

It was just awesome that one of the greatest players remembered meeting me at previous MM gatherings. it was pretty surreal.

Being an MM fan's been a very good thing to me. not only do I get exposed to awesome guitars & basses but I end up in random situations that I never thought id be in: like having dinner at Chilis with BP, Luke and Morse... true story. very random, surreal and 100% awesome
