I got a couple more.
1) Frank Gambale on Great Explorers on the track Frankly Speaking
2) Tony MacApline, on first CAB album on the title track CAB
Both of these solos are incredibly long and so diverse from the regular solos I hear very oftenm full of emotion, speed, and technique. If you guys dont know these albums you MUST get em.
And as for BASS solos, just do add on a bit more, Dave LaRue is the BEST. The solo on Steve Morse's album Coast to Coast on the track Over Easy is simply AMAZING and beautifull. I have NEVER heard a better bassist than this guy .
the solo on number 4 actually has a "theme", back when players still could incorperate a theme in thier solos that applied to the song. Toto were real players that were fluent in any style and they are from my neck of the woods. We must support our locals. I saw Bobby Kimball at Deep Ellem cafe when I was in high school.
Alexi Laiho-Follow the Reaper,Bodom After Midnight, Children of Decadence, Are You Dead Yet.
Kirk Hammett-Fade to Black, Master of Puppets, For Whom the Bell Tolls.
Sinister Gates-The Wicked End
Dimebag Darrel-Walk
These are the best "metal" solo's in my oppinion. I'm not big on many other genre's.
yeah the solo in manhattan is freekin hard, lots of fast pentatonic runs that are pure Johnson. Camels night out is one song i dont expect many people to play either. VERY hard solos in thta one.
I have to agree with all the posts so far as regards solos - but I'm going to chuck a few others into the mix - see if any one else agrees..........!
Kee Marcello's work on the Europe Album 'Out of this World' especially 'Superstitious'.
George Lynch - a song called Night By Night - I can't remember the name of the album!
CC Deville's guitar work on the Poison Albums
Angus Young...................................................................Gary Moore..........................................Dan Baird LOL - I love his work!
I'm sure there'll be moore..............................................
My non-musical buddies and I have a running joke:
Whenever I ask a music trivia question, they always answer it with "Andrew Ridgley!".
One of these days, it'll be the right answer. LOL

3) Neal Schon - Stone in Love
4)Clapton - Sunshine of your Love
5) David Grissom - Storyville's, "A good day for the blues"

The whole song is freakin amazing and difficult, but the solo tops it off, of course .
John Petrucci
Under a Glass Moon
Scarred
Lie
Hollow Years (from Live at Budokan)
The Spirit Carries On
Glasgow Kiss
Really, there aren't too many solos by JP that I don't love.

Pretty much anything from "Eat 'em And Smile"
Sisters
For the Love of God
Tender Surrender
David Gilmour
Pretty much anything from "The Wall" and "Dark Side of the Moon"
EVH
Beat It
Pretty much anything from 1984 and Fair Warning
Hendrix
Little Wing
Pretty Much anything from "Are You Experienced?" and "Axis: Bold As Love"
If I may:
1. Zakk Wylde, "no more tears"w/Ozzy

3. The Edge "Until the end of the world" w/U2
