Not that I am one to complain, but why is it when you go to Guitar Center, you have no trouble finding EBMM Basses, but can never find any Guitars?

This evening I took my friend to pick up his car which was oddly enough a block away from the Guitar Center in Redondo Beach, CA. So I stopped in and noticed that there were 7 EBMM Basses - mostly SR4 with one SR5, a Sterling and a Bongo. However there were no MM guitars. In fact, I haven't seen a MM guitar there in at least 2 years. OK, it's not like I go every month, but I do stop by from time to time. They used to have Lukes and JPs in stock... but not anymore for some reason.

I talked to one of the sales guys and they said that Music Man is basically a custom house, so we don't keep anything in stock. But what about the basses?

Anyway, I am not complaining, just commenting. The Stingray is a damn fine instrument (mine comes in tomorrow - yeah! :D ), so I can see why they are so popular. However, I just think it would just be nice to try out a guitar amplifier without having to use a Stratocaster. ;)

It could be a local sales thing --- If they brought in guitars and they didn't sell in that particular store they might feel that it was more of a bass market. That means keep basses in stock and not guitars.

For example: my store - Walk-in sales on EBMMs here are almost 10:1 guitars/basses. The logical "smart" business move for me would be to stock around 10x more guitars than basses because that's where the sales are. That being said, I stock about 25% basses in the hopes of increasing bass sales.

Maybe I'm stupid, but I'm having fun being that way :D

we have reduced the number of Guitar Center stores that stock the stuff. Im a little suprised that the store you visited had any. The concept is to try to offer a wide range in select stores rather than dilute the allocation over all of the stores

But how do we find out which ones?

Maybe call your local guitar center and ask them which ones carry them.

Some I know of are Sherman Oaks, CA Hollywood, CA, Fountain Valley CA, La Mesa CA, Las Vegas NV (on tropicana blvd).

Always a nice side trip to visit the LV one. Makes the gambling money last a bit longer. :p

Shame. There's a good possibility that I would already have bought a Morse if my local GC had one on the wall. I don't have to buy it from GC, but I have to try it before I order one sight unseen. Oh well.

adwex the dealers not updating the locater page is just so lame. Here we are sending them customers and they are too lazy to update. They are the same that blame guitar center for thier woes.

Lame, yes, but in the end, it worked out for them....I followed the bait, go to the store that I normally wouldn't go to, was about to leave disappointed, figured I'd pick up a pack of strings (Slinky 10's ;) ). Dude tells me "their on sale, 50% off". I say "cool". Price? around $6! Holy crap, does that mean that the normal price is $12? Their 1/2 price is still $2 more than what I pay MF.
No wonder I never go there.

Point is that if they updated the locator page, they wouldn't have gotten my $6.

$12 normally, that what they are normally here in Australia (which is normal price for strings). That'll be like me paying $25-$30 per pack. Crazy stuff.

Scott.

Tried that.
Went there (Music Land in Lake Grove NY).
Not only did they NOT have the guitar I was interested in, they had NO EBMMs.

Been there, done that. I drove more than an hour out to find 0 EBMMs at a store in my area. That's when I was naive enough to believe that the dealer inventory pages accurately reflected a store's inventory. Now, I don't even bother with that thing.

When I got screwed by that store that had no EBMMs at all, my friend bought a bottle of the EB polish to make the trip worth something. I was being spiteful, and I didn't give them a dime for a damn thing. Screw them.
