Please don't laugh, I don't think 'collectable'? is a bad question. :(

So I traded for one and it has chrome pickup covers and a knurled volume knob, non painted head stock and textured rear covers.

So, I'm assuming it's basswood. How about the pickups and electronics? Still the same as the other Axis models?

Thanks.

nah, it's a bursty flame top.

To me it feels like the neck is a flatter radius and just a tad skinnier than my 1996. The covers in the back are a crinkle paint aluminum .... so apparently there are some differences, but maybe minor. I was too wondering if it was basswood because it feels heavy like ash.... but someone from MM here said they are all basswood.

I wonder how many were made for that special run, anyone know, and what year? Thanks.

We shipped some flame topped Honey Burst and Tobacco Burst Axis with chrome covers to GC in September of 2009.

Aside from the chrome pickup covers and chrome dome knob, my Axis (Black magic crystal) had different tuners on the floyd, they were black chrome, like a tinted chrome.

That's the one! At first I thought someone installed chrome covers, but then they said this was some kind of limited edition. Do you know how many were made? Here is a picture>

Here's mine. I like the cosmetics and the non-painted headstock.

Love those. Although the non-painted HS is a deal-breaker for me on the AXIS.

Those are GREAT looking Axii. As someone above said, very classy looking. I'd very happily gig one of those, although my 1996 has something very special about how it plays that I can't explain. I'm a better player whenever I use it.

I'm an owner of the limited run Black Magic Crystal Axis, does anyone know how many were made or if they'd be considered collectable or not? It's been an amazing guitar I've had it over 2 years now & bought it at the Roseville, CA Guitar Center within a week of it's arrival for a tour I was going on.

Was the neck on the 1996 Axis the same as the EVH or did they add the 1/32 of an inch before the Axis name change? The 96's do have a little something special going on... Don't know what it is.

I bought some chrome covered Axis pickup hoping they would fit into one of my Axis hardtails, but unfortunately they don't. The routering must be a touch wider for the covered pickups. :(
