I don't know if its turning this way for everyone else but lately, I'm finding more reason to add less and less to my rig.

I dunno, maybe I'm jaded with all the options and tech out there nowadays?

My philosophy is to stick as closely to "Guitar, cord, amp" flow as much as possible.

Aside from the Nova system, all I'll need is a wah, vp, overdrive, and an A/B box for the piezo.

Maybe I'm weird.

Hey,

I think something to consider also is customer support. The unit can sound great, do what you want, but if the customer support sucks then its very very hard to deal with. Part of what makes EBMM great is that they have amazing products AND great customer service. I don't own one yet, but I keep a close eye on them and love all their products and their customer service only enhances that.

I can make the usual suggestions that you can't go wrong with, like BOSS, Digitech, Line 6. I have tried the GT-10 and the X3 Live, tried out not bought. There are a lot of menus with the GT-10 not the most friendly user face, and I love that kind of stuff and own the XT Live and a Vetta II. The X3 Live has an easier menu, a bit less scrolling. Both into tube amps. They sound good, both do, but BOSS seems to win for durability and maybe customer service. Line 6 customer service is...less than satisfactory in my opinion. Go on their forum to check. Also, something to consider is, that the Digitch rp series and the GT series from BOSS allows you to bypass the modeling and use your amp, so I'd invest in that. Line 6 doesn't have that. So when you want recorded tones, you can just use an rp 500 or rp1000, or the GT series, but when you want to use a tube amp, you can use those for effects and as a controller. This allows you to keep using the unit with future purchases. But you know your needs apparently, so I'd just try them out and see which one you think fits your needs the best.

Signal leaving guitar is analog. My head is vintage, hand wired, all tube and therefore analog. Logic dictates to me that I should keep my signal analog. All my effects are, you guessed it. Analog. Then again even among the few effects i currently have my pedal board is already worth around $1500...

In case I haven't said it enough...

Analog. That's how I roll. Playa.

Of course it's all personal choice and preference. The m13 is sort of a cool digi effects unit.

Yes the Line6 stuff is digital, but they are not bad at getting those chewy retro sounds. For the most part they model vintage analog gear. These are completely different than a digital effects that are designed to give you pristine studio like sounds. I personally love the tube and tape echo delays, not many people are gonna shell out for the real things.

^agreed. It's mainly the digital distortions that irk me. It's hard to find a digital distortion that doesn't sound thin or tinny. However, if you want a lot of effects on a budget, an effects processor is the way to go. Although the eventide processor is supposed to be crazy good, but I haven't heard it. I think part of me just loves my pedals. If I don't like one I can just replace it instead of the whole unit...

I think I'm about done with the Boss stuff too...I had a GT-6 and still have a GT-8. Unfortunately, I just can't get the tones I want, even when pumped through my 1987 JC-120 (which I had heard is the amp that Boss uses as their reference platform when designing new GT units). You can't beat the programmability of the GT series, but I just feel like they suck the life out of my pickups. There's always something missing. It's going on evilbay as soon as I can get around to it.

I recently bought the Line 6 Gearbox/Amp Farm plugin to mess around with recording, and I REALLY like the Line 6 tone - and I'm now considering a POD X3 Live. I'm just not sure how it would sound with the JC. I would love an Axe-Fx, but it's out of my price range for the foreseeable future...

Mike

Mike,

I am right there with you on this, had the GT-8 and was OK, and preorderd the GT-10 after hearing these rave reviews, but the 8 was better, but yea never can get what i am looking for out of either and the 10 really sounds so processed and digital, definetly not a match for my current amp and yea sucks the life out of the pups, been just going directly into the amp lately so much better.

Going to put the 10 on ebay as well and start looking again, done with digitech as well quality has dropped and sounds to sterile as well.

So hard to find something decent, especially when the only true way to test is with my stuff in my house, plus wouldnt mind finding something a tad more portable, i.e. smaller.

Keith , you gotta try the TC Nova system for quality and portability and great value for money. TC Electronic | Nova System
