Difficult choice...I would say Frank Zappa. Respacted as a composer as well as a guitarist. No compromize, no sellout.

I would definatly want to be in Steve Morse's shoes. To me he plays the most beautiful music. He is an amazing composer, and technical player at the same time which is unbeatable for me. He has had an incredibly long career playing with the best musicians such as my FAVOURITE bass player Dave LaRue of course, and is playing with my FAVOURITE band Deep Purple. Plus he is the most down to earth person and has many other cool aspects like flying planes and is not afraid of getting his hands dirty cutting trees at his home and those kinda ranch duties. The biggest thing for me is his INSANE versatility. Take for example Tumeni Notes, Modoc, and Going to Town....INSANE I TELL YOU!!!
YEAHHH for me he is number one, my second would be John Petrucci but he has something missing....................................................................................................................................SCENERY CONTROL ,i hate to see him play, no emotion almost like robot playing the best riffs in the world .........and as said music is like an art, is subjective

No single guitar hero to speak of, but have a handfull that have changed the way I view the guitar and the way it is played...

Albert Lee is really one of my most respected, from Bill Wyman and the Rythem Kings to Emmylou Harris or Hogans Heros, the man is a guitar god...

Stanley Jordan, if you have ever seen him live, plays guitar like no other I've ever seen before - or have never seen anybody that can even come close to playing his style...

Steve Morse - Never really heard about him, or knew about him untill I was in St. Louis years ago when he I heard him warming up for show (High Tension Wires tour), bought a ticket and have been a fan ever since

Tony Rice and Norman Blake - Never heard such fine picking on accustics in my life, wish I could play half the speed they can

and of course Les Paul, I remember a show I saw on television years ago for Les Pauls birthday, hosted by Billy Squire and featured Eddie V and Les Paul. Billy Squire guitar parts sucked compaired to Eddies, but Les Paul made Eddie look like a joke, at least to me anyway...

Hey, this question is so EASY, I don't even have to think about it to answer:

Luke!

Hands down. For me, this one's a no-brainer:

1) His session career is legendary.
2) Toto is still going strong after almost 30 years.
3) He is not so famous that he cannot have a public life without hordes of guitarists chasing after him. (Lucious, please correct me if I'm wrong on this one.) Contrast with the likes of EVH, Vai, Satch, Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, etc.
4) He has his own, signature EBMM model. :D

well, I'm a huge Eric Johnson fan. awesome player and awesome song writer, plays piano too.

Jimmy Page is certainly up there, his creativity is untouchable

Gilmore is pretty sweet.

EVH, an obvious, bad ass

I recently have heard some chet adkin tunes/videos. he was a great talent. very good, plays clean, just a well rounded player.

Big +1 here...

Luke seems to have the best of both worlds - fabulous guitar player living the "Rock Star" dream life, yet still a regular guy. Making a living his way without having to hide from the real world - awesome. :D

Does anyone here remember the cartoon 'The Hair Bear Bunch'?:D

Oh and Jimmy Page for me please! As I've got older I've come to realise that many of my early hero's are just ordinary people really, getting by, having the same problems and dilemmas that we have.

Jimmy Page however is a God deposited on the planet from Olympus, who cannot possibly even understand the ways of mere mortals.

That wasn't over the top was it?

kirk hammett. his technical ability isn't in the clouds with some of the standards, but he is an interesting character who has had a blast with his career. he is always trying to learn new things, new styles, and trying to find ways to better himself, not only for himself but as an example to the rest of the band (metallica). hes the guy who got me to beg mom for a guitar, and the music he made got me through a lot of tough times through junior high and high school. i would love to be able to be that for someone someday

Normally i would say EVH...

But i dont like the person he has become...kind of an ass now-a-days! I would not want to be remembered that way (he could keel any day)

I would say Ace Frehley...yeah, he isnt the greatest guitar player in the world, but he was part of one the most influential rock bands ever and he did have some cool riffs now and then. Plus, you gotta love the makeup :D

John Petrucci if I had to choose one person

Three or four years ago, I'd have said EVH. Now, John Petrucci. The bonus is, if I were him, I wouldn't live too far from where I live now! ;) Plus, unlike EVH, JP is hardly ever drunk in a restaurant. Hardly ever.

Johnny Diesel :) heheh, got a cd of his.

I would say, due to longevity, my childhood, fun, energy and all round no-compromise (although many will say he is NO techno. master, but I think he is THE riff master :))..............

Angus Young!
