Child of the '80s? Moi?

Thanks m8. I'll do that! One day I'll have some MP3s of my own to post. Once I actually learn how to record with my Mac that is:D

Bettencourt is a definate must! That guy is amazing. I even like some of his newer stuff. But I thought Extreme was such a good band. I was very sad that their last CD was Waiting for the Punchline because I thougth 3 Sides was genius!

1. Steve Morse

2. Steve Lukather

3. Adrian Smith

4. Joe Satriani

5. Brian May

Rock music wear its own cloth

Great list guys, but my favorite is Mattias IA Eklundh.
If you haven't heard of this guy then I suggest you go and find either his band's stuff, ie. Freak Kitchen or his solo stuff, ie. Freak Guitar This guy has changed the way I look at guitar playing.

Also I would like to mention a few others that are amazing:
Neil Zaza
Porty
Alessandro Benvenuti
Joe Stump
Michael Lee Firkins
Herman Lee (DragonForce)
Katsu Ohta
Tore Ostby
Adrian Smith
Dave Murray
Glen Tipton

Gotta go with 2 lists as my tastes have changed over the years

Biggest influences on me growing up were

1. JIMMY PAGE (loved how different each album sounded)
2. STEVE HOWE (such interesting note selection)
3. JEFF BECK (made every note and each phrase really count)
4. EVH (best sounding solo's, and coolest progressions too)
5. ALEX LIFESON (use of open strings really impacted my style)

Honorable mention to BRIAN MAY (perfect riffs, always humable).

Honestly though, I don't listen much to them anymore (except Beck's Wired & Blow by Blow).

Nowadays its

1. STEVE MORSE (best songwriter/master of all styles)
2. JOE SATRIANI (Tone! Melody! Hooks! Dude has it all)
3. LAURENCE JUBER (Fingerstyle asskicker/amazing composer)
4. BELA FLECK (Banjo like a guitar/songs like you can't describe)

In no particular order my top five would have to be...

Ty Tabor (I'll never get tired of listening to his playing - always inspiring. Quite simply the BEST tone I've EVER HEARD! )

Alex lifeson (Solos on the edge a lot of the time - massive sound)

The Edge (doesn't do too much, tasteful and tuneful)

Richie Sambora (Great feel and brilliant simple hooks)

Steve Lukather (Note choice is terrific)

Sorry no old faves (Beck, Clapton, Page, SRV, Hendrix etc) but aside from Lukather not really any new faves (Vai, Satch, Petrucci) guess I'm a bit weird.

top 5 guitarist

In no particular order:

Eddie Van Halen
Slash
Carlos Santana
Steve Vai
David Gilmour

It's really hard to say. My favorite for the longest time has been Petrucci. Though I've always liked Vai......... so both are my favorite. :p
