Biggest mistake I ever made was thinking that I had to keep the noise down when our first girl arrived. Spent 12 months walking around on tip toes and guess what, any time there was the slightest noise she would wake up.

But you learn with experience, the other 2 fell asleep and stayed asleep even if a bomb went off beside them. Last week, something triggered our house alarm at 2am in the morning - cleared my ear wax good and proper, not a sound from the 3 girls.

We've still got a couple of weeks to go, but I've read the same thing.

This is absolutely true - and critical to my sanity as a parent! We permitted normal "noise" to go on around our sleeping children right from the beinning. Dishwasher to vacum cleaner as well as dinner-parties that went on beyond their bed time. Now, happily, it doesn't matter what's going on in the house. When it's their bedtime they say good night and off they go. Once they're out they stay out! :)

We were playing a wedding in a hotel before Christmas and we were pumping out some song or other through our PA and there was a couple on the dance floor and the dad had their 9 week old girl lying in his arms sound asleep as we belted it out.

Don't be frightened of a little noise from time to time, they deal with it quickly.

Disclaimer: LeftyLB is simply giving an opinion and accepts no responsibility if other forumites children react adversely to unsurpressed bass noise within the fammily home. ;)

Thanks for the advice Lefty. I have a feeling that being our first child, we'll be overeacting to many situations. I worked with kids for 10 yrs so hopefully some of that time will pay off; but of course, I"m sure it'll be different with my own.

Oh, you have NO idea! :D:D:D

I don't have kids of my own, but I had a lot of laughs watching the contortions my best friends put themselves through! Completely, utterly irrational behavior appears to be par for the course.

My wife is already a hypocondriac and I've been trying to tell her that it can be just as dangerous being overprotective and freaking out about every little scratch as it can be ignoring the kid. Don't you think every boy should have the privledge to learn what happens when you lick a light socket? heheheh Joking of course...
