Heads-Up on the "For Sale", "Wanted To Buy" and "Ebay/Craigslist" threads.

Hey all, we've made a few small changes to the rules on the For Sale, WTB, and eBay threads. Please read them. The same rules apply on both sides (bass and guitar). Here are some of the changes...

Items for trade go into the For Sale thread only, and 25 post rule applies in full. Please don't post for trade in the WTB thread.

No links to your own ebay auctions, craigslist etc. in the F/S thread. Simple links in the eBay thread only. Choose F/S post OR an ebay post for your own instruments, not both.

Asking for payment by PayPal gift option is not allowed. We understand people trying to avoid charges but the gift option robs buyers of any protection or recourse if ever there is a problem. As the rules we have here came in part from a wish to protect our forumites from bad deals, we're not going to allow that here.

You must state a price on your For Sale ads.

No comments in any of the F/S, WTB, ebay threads, please. Keep things cleaner for everyone.

They use bold font throughout.

(It's true they actually do, go see!).

BTW, this is the fruit of much arduous discussion between us mods (me, beej, Rod Trussbroken, Bovinehost, and BP). Dealing with the For Sale thread takes up most of our time as mods, at least on the guitar side. (Sad to say but the guitarists are generally way more difficult to deal with than the bass side). Anyway, over the last few years we tend to see the same issues. After a particularly time consuming and stressful month of May with about a gazillion bannings, we took the opportunity to put hammer and chisel to some stone tablets and make sure that things are spelled out as clearly as possible and in a way that doesn't add to the moderators' workload.

Special thanks to Rod Trussbroken, who was MVP in this particular game, taking all our musings and insults, making some final tie-breaker decisions, and banging it all into shape.

Thanks for the update Beej. I've gone through a handful of updates through the F/S thread, and thankfully, they have been smooth, open and honest transactions.

I just hope for the same experience for the others!

i've actually had some deals go bad on other sites because of the "gift" option - thanks for the updates and keeping everything on the up and up...

I haven't seen the new rules yet (I just use the view new posts button), but....have you addressed the people that simply delete their old posts and re-post the same guitar, over, and over, and over, and over, again?

Hopefully. Thanks!

So long as they space it out- every so often, rather than bumping it daily, we don't really have a problem with that.

Yes, you do see some of the same items regularly. But that can be a hidden gem for a new member looking for something specific. Bottom line is, you don't have to read that thread if you're not looking for something.

yeah, I since found the rules, and noticed that. So, to avoid seeing the same guitars over and over again, you're suggesting I simply avoid the thread altogether? I'm not going to buy boatwake or the black and red Axis that have both showed up there for years, but I don't want to miss out on all the other guitars in there. At some point, the seller needs to realize nobody wants their guitar, or they are priced too high and a tiny little price adjustment isn't going to change anyone's mind.

Not a big deal, was just hoping this would be addressed in this round of updates is all.

Yes, sometimes we do see the same guitars for a while, and that's normal. Some people are willing to wait for the price that they want, and they'll eventually get it. And some guitars just don't have a big market and will stay there for quite a while regardless, just waiting for that buyer to come along. The red and black axis found a great home with a very happy buyer. Perfect example. It took time, that's all. The red silo will too.

We will never enforce a "get rid of your ad older than X weeks" rule. If the forum member is eligible to post and is in good standing in the community they have the right to put their ad there. As beej said, somebody bumping their advert too frequently will be dealt with by us when it becomes intrusive.

I hear what you're saying, but like the good doctor so eloquently mentioned, our position as mods is that we're not really going to get involved with transactions. Contributing members are free to post and make deals, provided they obey the rules.

We figure that's a net positive for everyone.

Thanks for your concern.

I've bought 1 guitar here and it was a SWEET deal.

Anything that keeps the board this way has my approval...

Yup! A lot of people think of the For Sale facility as just a notice board. It's not. When people have been on the forum for a while, and actually participated, been a part of the community, people get to know each other. We know who can be trusted. That is the great advantage and joy of this facility. That's a very good reason for people to spend time here building relationships. Those of us who have been here longest have all bought and sold some fabulous instruments here. And many of here have made life-long friends. And that's great for the forum too.

+1

I appreciate the for sale thread and the trust the regulars develop with one another.

You won't worry about seeing the Axis Super Sport, it sold.

Glenn |B)

touche'! I just saw the thread that it had sold, congrats!

And forgive me, it's just a little pet peeve of mine, and I was a little grumpy yesterday I guess.

I think it's an Axis though, not SS, right?

Doug, I know it's your pet peeve. And yes you are right, I'm always calling it an ASS when it's an Axis, it use to be my wifes.
