Im a new member here and just wanted to say hello. As of yesterday at 12pm, I am the proud owner of a new (to me) 2007 Stingray 5!! I traded a fellow member on talkbass my 2008 Fender P5 for it and I'm quite glad I did. The first thing I did was throw my Sadowsky flats on there and all I can say is wow! I wasn't sure how a stingray would sound with flats but boy do I like it! So anyway, I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Can anyone possibly point me in the direction of some basic setup/neck care threads? I'm using the tapatalk app and the search function is strange and frightening to me. Thanks!

Oh and here's a pic of my new bass!

Nice bass. Love that (burst apple?) burst.

I am a big fan of the Sadowsky flats. very buttery. Very different string from the EB flats. If you haven't tried those before, give them a shot to see what else your bass can do with a different flavor of flats. You might be surprised by the difference (not better or worse, just another flavor of happy).

Here's a link to the FAQ for bass setup:

How do I set up my Music Man bass?

Thanks! It's actually called black cherry burst. It came from the factory with a white pearl pick guard and white pickup cover I believe. The guy I traded with swapped everything out for black, which I like a lot better. He gave me the pearl pick guard and pickup cover too so if anyone is looking for one of those, hit me up, I'm never gonna use them. I have been definitely thinking about giving the Ernie Ball flats a shot, can you compare them to any other flats as far as tension and brightness goes?

Oh and thanks for the link!

Certainly I'm partial to this color, being the owner and all, but I really do think its one of the best colors I've ever seen on a bass guitar.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new bass.

All Music Man bursts are fantastic IMO. Just a year ago, bursts were not even on the list of guitar colors I liked. Then I got me a Vintage Sunburst SR5 FL (the one in my avatar), despite its color. Within a week I was a convert. In the end, I had to get a transparent pickguard for it, because I couldn't hide that burst away any longer.

Now I'm drooling over the Honeyburst (though I haven't seen one in person yet), and wondering what MM bass I will eventually find in that color. Your Cherryburst is not bad either. :)

Yeah that Honeyburst is nice, I was really close to getting a honeyburst SBMM Ray35 but I held out for the stingray.

Hmmmmm...I thought I read somewhere on here that those were glued and not able to be swapped, but I could be mistaken. Welcome, and you should try some EBMM Group IV flats. I love them on my SR5.

I guess group IV flats would be something like 50-135ish? Do they have a tapered B?

Sounds like you picked up Chris`s bass and if so it sure is a beauty, was close to trading him my Dlx J5 for it but had to back out(personal reasons). I really like it with the white pg and white pup cover. Well anyhoo, good luck with it, I`m sure it sounds awesome. If you did deal with Chris he is a awesome dude. PEACE

They are glued, I know mine was till I carefully cut the glue out with a Dremel. Then you can clean it up and put on any cover you want as long as it`s black..lol (or if you can find white)

Yup it was Chris's! He was definitely a pleasure to deal with, hopefully he's enjoying the P5!

Welcome aboard, congrats on your SR5, looks like it's in fine shape, I agree the black covers and guard work perfectly
with that finish. Great Bass.
