Hi.

I am very interested in a music man silhouette a local is selling here in the Philippines.

He claims its a 1986, first production Silhouette.

Please help me with the specs, like, what the PUs should be, serial number, wood, etc.

TIA.

I remember once seeing the 10th SiLO made and it's serial was ink stamped on the back of the headstock
86010

As I'm sure you know, if you post the SN here you can find out things for sure.

Good Luck

Make sure the neck has 6 bolts holding it on and the serial # should look something like this:

Silhouette0032.jpg

It should say 86xxx. If it looks legit, pick it up because these early ones are awesome!

the seller has not sent a detail picture of it yet, and I requested if we could meet so I could inspect.

from his old, blurry picture..the tuner's "petals" (dunno what's it called" seems to be made of pearloid.

To see a very early Silhouette, go onto the thread entitled History of EB MM guitars, elsewhere on this forum, as it includes a picture of mine, s/n 86006. The easiest way to identify such an example is that the headstock has the original curved Ernie Ball Music Man logo at the end, not the later straight type situated between the machine heads. More importantly, the Silhouette name isn't included at all!

I'm not sure about the headstock but the other guys are right, if it's serial number 86010 it should have been the 10th made in 86 (first year of production)

Pictures please.

Sorry my bad... It's not number 10 because one of the other forum members has it. Check out thread "Old Silo #10 Pics" and it will give you an idea of what you should look for.

Good luck.

how much should this cost? It's been refretted, and a abalone Petrucci-like inlay has been put on the first fret.

:( Oh dear! I don't know what a reasonable price would be but it's a little less now! It will be interesting to see proper pictures and figure out how much of the guitar is still original.

But the important thing, once you have seen the guitar, is how you feel about it. How much are you willing to pay? In some ways the "market value" is irrelevant. It's only a guide, and how you feel about the guitar is more important, especially when the guitar is as unusual or rare as this one is.

Thanks for your input DrKev, much appreciation.

here are 2 pictures with the modifications, original schaller single coil PUs are gone, plus the refret...the rest are still original.

any assessment on the price? You know, just for gauging if I'm paying more...I don't want to be taken advantage of.

the seller priced it at $930 w/o the upgrades...I don't need the upgrades, so I'm negotiating if he can bring it down by a hundred. Hmm...so the price is still high eh?

do you guys think its legit, the serial indicated an EVH model, but then their database messed up...Aziah said it could or could not be legit.

Yep, regardless whether it is legit or not (i think it probably is) the prices is still too high. It's dinged up, that inlay is an abortion... Use of the term "upgrades" is pretty loose. No way I would pay more than $700US, i'm not even sure I would pay that. Obviously a guitar is worth whatever you are willing to part with and if you are happy with a purchase that is all that matters. But that being said I have scored some sweet axes for around $1000US...

To put it in perspective, I have a mate that recently parted with a Silhouette Special (and I almost bought it!) made 1995, amazing condition and neck, in discontinued colour Metallic Purple and it went on ebay for $950 - Strap/Case/Hand tags, the lot. That isn't a bad deal... And i'm sorry to be the barer of bad news, but the thing you're looking at, not so much.

It looks legit, except for all the "upgrades". A lot of the early serial #'s were later re-used on the EVH, I know mine was.

was just about to post that the guitar was probably refinished when I saw your post toybitz. Such finish is not an EBMM job even on the Sub series

I will follow Scott advise try to find a better deal
