I am very excited as I am off to my local dealer on Monday to place my order for a lefty Bongo5 (single H) and have been agonizing over the color. I was actually going to go in today and place my order but I simply cannot decide. This will be my first Bongo and as a lover of EB's 'Trans' finishes, I am at a loss to choose a solid color. I have managed to narrow it down to the following:

1. Olive Gold with Gold Swirl pg.
2. True Gold with Vintage White Pearl pg. (or possibly Torte pg)
3. Ice Blue with Vintage White pearl pg.

I want to choose a color that really represents the unique niche that the Bongo seems to have forged itself in the bass world. The Olive Gold looks so cool but I wonder if it be kind of dull looking in low light. The True Gold looks amazing but i already have a Trans Orange SR5 so it may be silly to order another "orangey" colored bass.

I gotta pick one. I know its a silly thing to ask other people to tell you what you like best, but without seeing these colors in person, its hard to choose. So please give me some food for thought!

;)

Personally, I think that ice blue looks most amazing with the white pearl or solid black p/g. GO for it!! :)

Ice Blue on a Bongo actually makes me think, "What other kind of Bongo do I need?" I still come up with, "Um, nothing", but what a cool color on a Bongo!

Thanks so far. Its tough as everyone has a different taste. Thanks for your offer Oddjob, but I am a lefty so I don't think you can help me. I would all over a used Bongo regardless of color is someone has a lefty up for sale!

My vote, especially after bovine's eye candy post.

3. Ice Blue with Vintage White pearl pg.

True Gold would be my choice out of your three, although Olive Gold is such interesting colour that would probably look good on a Bongo too. And Blue Ice, that's pretty cool as well. I can see why you're having a problem choosing!

Out of your original list it would be True Gold (but Torted) hands down. The Ice Blue is also nice if you prefer a little less in-your-face appearance.

That being said: grant the instrument a light, bright colour - the unique shape of the Bongo deserves this. Just add some dark(ish) shirts and pants for the stage and wear that bass! :D

Cheers, Stephen

I have to say, this is hard. But True Gold is the front runner so far my a small margin. I think the white pearl guard might be a tad plain and the Torte may be just the ticket! The worst part will be not changing my mind on the color during the long wait!

Just choose at random, you won't be dissapointed with any Bongo you recieve.

Honestly, I went for an Egyptian Smoke Bongo because it was local and available. It looked dull in pictures but in person...Phwoar...what you gotta understand is that all EBMM finishes look a BILLION times better in person. FACT.

So, either of your options will look bloody fantastic.

Mine will be olive gold w/vintage white pearl p/g...but that's because of the small scale jobs I do, and the fact that it's an unlined fretless 6'er. My 2nd choice for a new bass was a Big Al in ice blue w/vintage white p/g, maple fretboard. [drooool....]

Have you seen Olive Gold in person? It's really outstanding.
I've never seen a photo that does it justice. Blue ice and true gold are pretty much like the photos (only better). Olive gold is just, well different. Before ordering another color, try to see one in the flesh, you might love it (like I do), you might not. I like gold swirl and black pickguards with it but I can't wait to see T Alan's with vintage white pearl - never seen one in that configuration.

Olive Gold seems to be the most extreme of the colors as far as how different it can look in photos. I have not seen it in person yet but have been amazed at some of the photos. i really have no clue which color to pick. i hope to place my order tomorrow if I can make a decision. They all look great!

Olive Gold is really a weird colour and I agree that you have to see it in person to get the full effect. I've seen it on a few basses and it has that "it's so ugly that it's beautiful" effect on me. I do think it would suit certain models better than others though. I personally don't like it on an SR5 or SR4, but I think it would look great on the Big Al and Bongo.

I tend to like the more extreme colours on the Bongo.
