The good Reverend B. Gibbons plays chambered bodies and necks on his more current Tele style guitars. I'd call his tone beefy and solid. But a lot of his tone comes from his playing style.

Give Joe Walsh a Les Paul, close your eyes and you can tell it's him. Give him a Benji Madden, same thing...Strat with mini humbucker in the bridge...and so on.

If your tone is solid and beefy on your current electric guitar, chances are it'll be the same on a chambered or solid JP (with slight variations).

I think you're hung up on the wrong area.

I think so much tone can be made up by your amp. Look at Petrucci, he sounds almost the same no matter what he uses!

I'd look at the necks, to me that's the MOST important thing of any guitar.

I don't have a JPXI, almost bought one but steered away from the flatness of the fretboard.

I have a JPX and JP6, and I can say the JP6 has the most comfortable wonder neck out there. The JPX is great, but it seems wider and little flatter than the JP6.
