So I just purchased the most beautiful Sterling HH (you can see photos in another thread here). However, the neck H seems to be too close to the neck when playing slap and pop! I have small hands, but it's still hard to fluidly and repeatedly pop the D & G strings because the neck H gets in the way of my fingers. I've lowered the pickup and raised the action and the problem remains. I noticed that on the Stingray HH, there's more room between the neck H and the neck (likely due to the larger body). Has anyone else had this problem with the Sterling? It seems that the Sterling H/S is more popular on these boards. Is this the reason? I can still exchange mine for an H/S. (I don't want a single H because I like to rest my thumb on the neck PU.):confused::eek::confused::eek:

Also, if anyone has a photo of a Sterling or Stingray in Cherryburst/maple fingerboard/tort PG... I'd love to see it!

The reason there is more space on the Stingray is due to there being one less fret on the Ray. In regards to the space between the neck and the pickup, some people are able to adjust their technique to accommodate the "lack of space" and some people are not.

I don't think there is really a big difference in how many people have H/S vs. H/H Sterlings. If you think you will not be able to adjust to the H/H then by all means get the H/S, but I would recommend trying it out first to make sure you like the way it sounds first.

I tried the H/S yesterday and it definitely felt better. I had tried the Stingray HH prior to the Sterling HH order and it was fine. I didn't realize there'd be such a difference in space. I'm a little torn bc the HH I got is Vintage Sunburst/Matching Headstock/Maple Fingerboard/Black PG. I love it. The only HS in stock where I'd exchange it is a Cherryburst/Matching Headstock/Maple Fingerboard/White Ice PG. I'd definitely have them tort the PG. I'm just hoping I'll like the color as much (it will also be very similar to my Fender J-Bass). In any event, I think what matters most is that I feel comfortable, and the H/S seems more playable than the HH for slap/pop imho.

I am curious if anyone else has had this issue though and whether there are any suggestions to deal with it (besides buying the H/S).

Thanks. Looks nice. It's always helpful to see other photos since the lighting (and pick guard) can make a big difference.
