Very interesting. I´m always interested in guitar building things although I´m not really a woodworker myself.
Keep going and thanks for sharing!

Resale value is the only way the EVH was "better". The Axis line has improved upon the EVH in my opinion. I sold my Green EVH and have no regrets... If my gold axis went missing I would quit playing.

Edit- I do prefer the hand stained tops of the EVH to the sprayed Axis... But minor detail.

cool thread, but in what way is the EVH so much better than an Axis?

Please don't post tidbits of a partial idea or thought and spin it a certain way. I was VERY clear what I mean, please to reread that post.

I think this is going to be fun! What kind of oil or stain are you rubbing the top with to make the grain stand out better? Danish oil or something to that effect?

The grain is fine as at is, there will be no color added. I will seal it with shellac which will give it a slight amber over tone, and then painting with a catalyzed clear. The back will be stained brown, pending the grain patter of the basswood.

Got a bit done, way too cold to stay in the shop for too long.

Flush cut the body

Routed the floyd, had to find a way to get the cavity cut properly, so I cut a peice of wood that was the perfect size.

started on some wood cavity plates, clearly will need a LOT of tweaking to fix.
