Thanks guys. This is truly a rare EVH but what is really cool to me is the top. I have seen 3 prototype EVH guitars and the tops on all 3 were just unreal. They really outdid themselves!

Jim...hold onto that one!! Seriously...your Natural EVH is in my top 5...one of the best looking tops I've ever seen!

Do you just stare at it constantly or what? :D

Great guitar and not many are with a brown back.
I´ve seen one of Dudley´s Nr 80003 with floyd and brown back.
Great sucking top on that one.
And the last proto before production.

Hey Jim,

Were you able to confirm if this guitar was Dudley's? Any info on Ed actually checking it out and playing it at the factory in '91? Was there a story on why the prototypes had the original Floyd and the production models didn't? Are the tuners and pickups different from the production models at all? Sorry for all of the questions:eek: This is really cool:cool:!

Thanks,
Slav:)

This EVH was not Dudley's, as his was the other natural prototype EVH that had an Original Floyd Rose and a brown back. Sterling may know a little history on this one (80156) as it was used in Guitarist Magazine as well as the cover of The Guitar Handbook and was shipped to Strings N Things in the UK on May 15th, 1991. I was told by the previous owner it was the last prototype Ed signed off on before production began. Not 100% sure on that, but it is a prototype for sure. As for the Floyd, Fender had a license agreement on the Original Floyd Rose and that is when Music Man went with Gotoh for the Music Man tremolo (or at least that was how I understood it. For what it's worth, the Gotoh tremolo is more comfortable and I actually prefer it to the Original Floyd). The tuners and pick ups are all the same as production.

I'm not quite understanding the routes under the trem posts. Can you explain that a little, or post a better pic of that? It appears the routes are under the post, but not under the rest of the tremelo. Does it allow the posts to be lowered below the surface of the guitar? Just curious. thanks!

EDIT: Perhaps as a means to adjust/lower the action?

Jim-

that is really a special guitar... sure it would be cool if it were one that Ed had played... but that aside that's a great find and i'm glad it found its way to the family.

My Old Guitar....

How do, that's my old EVH! I was the lucky one who bought it off Ray at Strings & Things.... have you ever had a guitar that you wish you'd never sold?
These pics bring back some happy memories..

To get the OFR Trem flush on the body you need that routing.

Tremolo Floyd Rose | Schaller-Electronic

Hope that helps
