In 2006 I toured with Van Hunt. Van Hunt's manager is Randy Jackson. When I first joined the band, Van didn't like the green bass (which is my pride and joy) because it was obviously new and didn't have that particular vintage sound/look that Van liked. At the beginning of the tour, his manager helped out and lent me two basses to play on tour. One was the Bongo and one was a Fender Jazz. I might have been slightly disappointed when Van didn't like the look of my Stingray, but that disappointment quickly subsided when Randy Jackson hooked me up with two gorgeous basses to use instead!

Evidently my taste is bass colors isn't shared by many ;)

Interesting to consider a Bongo for vintage sound/look. Maybe it will get the sound, but it's definitely not one of your typical looking basses!

Funny enough, I went to see a friend play a show a little while back and he didn't play a nice new bass he had just got because he said it didn't look right for the gig (classic rock). He played a cheap sunburst Jazz copy instead. It didn't sound bad, but I was surprised that it would even matter to anyone. Then again, I like the look of a lot of classic basses too! :D The StingRay and StingRay5 being a couple of them.

I think your sparkly green StingRay5 looks great!

Thanks! Yeah... I know what you mean about the Bongo... but I think it's a vast improvement (as far as the band was concerned) to the Gremlin Green Glitter Stingray 5 String for that vintage look/feel ...even though I think the Stingray is totally classic! *wink wink* I played that bongo with black tapewound strings that Randy Jackson also hooked up. It was a great sound... really warm!
