Travis, isn't it time to start experimenting with preamp + power amp rigs, just to keep you busy for a few more years? Seriously - until you've tried Demeter or Alembic preamps (and others eg. Alembic, Aguilar etc) you've bypassed half the possibilities in your holy grail search.

To be fair, I have to admit that my Holy Grail of bass sound still is a StingRay into an SVT head with 8x10 cab. But as long as I'm my own roadie and tech, I'll not even think about owning one...

I'm sure that RBI gets you close to the SVT sound.

Yes it does! It's the reason why I have it. And I can even get the "dirt" of a hard driven tube head at reasonable volume. I do love the sound I get from my current rig, and it is as close to what I had in my head for decades as never before. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

But there's something to the physical presence and archaic simplicity of that huge SVT rig that just can't be emulated. It's just there.

I bought one of Travis' four (!) Eden WT400 amps. Funnily enough, it completely cured my AAS when I hooked it up in 4-ohm mode with two Bergantino 112's. My Trace Elliot 2x15 + AH300SMX has been sitting in the garage for a few years now.

I get the strange feeling that if I hear the Little Mark II I'll want to swap out the Eden? Just when my wish list was getting reasonable, along comes another amp!

Not sure why everyone assumes 90lbs of SVT when someone mentions loving the tube power.
There have always been lighter alternatives.

Thats a sick rig, I used one of those 400's on a tour once and just loved it....

I have never dug the ampeg thing however and never owned a peice of ampeg gear....and I have been doing pro gigs for 20 years....kind of unusual but I just never felt at home with the tone.
