I have two sets of strings for my bongo 6. A set of roundwounds and then a set of nylon tapewounds. I decided to put my roundwounds back on and in the process my high c decided it was going to shred the thread at the top and so when I was trying to tune it up it would slip when it started to feel the tension.

Aggravated that it had shredded I decided to put my nylons back on. After I was dressed... I mean... Uh... I got the high c nylon string and it did THE EXACT SAME THING.

How can I prevent this from happening? My bass now has no tension there because I don't have another string. also my nylon set is now ruined 50 bucks gone.

I'm quite frustrated but I have cobalts (minus the high c obviously) on the way.

I took a picture of the nylon (which by the way I clipped twice after it shredded twice). How can I stop this? Also what high c would best fit with the cobalt 5 set?

you have enough winds to salvage it. here is how you do it..

bend a 90 degree angle on the end of the string. put it down into the hole in the post. wrap the string halfway around the post.
then, instead of going all the way around, you let it run in the slot on top of the post. this puts two more kinks in it, preventing it from slipping. after you come across you wind the string as usual. hopefully you have enough string length to get enough string angle over the nut :)

Ahhh makes sense. Thanks for that. That should do it. Should save me some trouble in the future too... I can't believe I didn't think of that. Too frustrated to think straight I guess. Or too dumb :p

Anyone know what the best match for cobalts are if I buy a separate high c?

i have learned this the hard way myself. slipping strings at a gig isnt fun but some quick repair does it :)
just so you know: i dont do it unless i have to..

as for the cobalts i would call customer service to hear when (or if) they will have a c string for you :)

I've successfully strung up G-strings that have only 3/4 turn
of wrapping available onto the peg, by driving a small screw
into the center hole before tightening up. I spoze with a a 'C'
string you may wanna add a sliver of wood before driving the
screw, cuz the 'C' leaves even more empty space in the hole
[vs the 'G']. I've done this more than once, and no problems.
