A little off topic, but what type of trem system is on the seafoam green Silo with the SSS pickup config in post #17? Thanks.

That was a trem system made by Schaller in the 1980s. As far as I can remember only 2 companies made widespread use of this trem unit - Schecter and EBMM. Schecter used it first - circa 1984-ish, and their version actually had "Schecter" stamped on the small piece of metal that screws on to the body (the trem had a long single knife edge that fit into that piece). That version of the Schecter company went bankrupt in early 1986.

The EBMMs started using this trem in 1986, but I don't think the use by the two companies overlapped - or if it did it was only for a few months in 1986. I'm not 100% sure when EBMM stopped using them; maybe in 1990? By 1991 they started using the Gotoh Floyd (after it made it's debute on the EVH Signature).

+1, those are some crazy looking Silo's!

Even though the HH AL's were officially introduced/launched in 2010, I had purchased this very limited color run as a Guitar Center exclusive in December of 2009 (I believe that it was made in November 2009). Here's my Hot Rod Red HH AL:

and my 2005 Fully Loaded JP6 in the discontinued Lava Pearl (Magma!)

Love this color!

I know this guitar!;)

Hope you are enjoying it. I loved that guitar. I have played numerous JPs and the original basswood version with the original sig bridge pickup is my all time favorite. I miss this guitar but glad it went to someone who appreciates it as much as I did.

My mate has a guitar workshop and he had a box of old guitar magazines - he said just take what you want.
I came across the October 2003 edition of Guitar and Steve Morse was on the front page. In the magazine was a 6 page interview with Steve. In the interview was a "Separate Text box" entitled Steve Morse Gear File - I've picked the bones out of it and here is what Steve said in 2003 ...

The guitar I use and have done for a long time is the Music Man signature model - it was developed by the guys at Music Man without so much as a contract. Fender approached me but it just didn't work out. I'd developed two special Humbucking pickups with DiMarzio which were everything I wanted - they have a great midrange and high end - you also get a good CLEAN high end when you back em off. I've used them for 30 years and I like 'em. MusicMan didn't mind me using the pickups and they produced a series of prototypes without ever complaining about the number of changes. I own No1 - my main gigging/recording guitar. The body is light weight poplar - has a very very clean sound. Strings are EB in .010 .013 .016 .026 .032 .042.
Amp is a Marshall 2000 head and a Marshall 1960 slope front 4 x 12 tipped over to aid sound dispersion.

I'd love to see a similar snippet of info on the Luke - any takers?

the first MM , i bought was in 2007, i remember saving 3 months to buy the guitar of my dream!! the Luke
this one make the beginning of a very good friendship with JM (ily) who is now one of my best friend!!!
this was in an egyptian smoke finish, i 'll always remember the first feeling of this guitar!!! i don't know why but i've always regreted to sale this one, maybe because it was the first!!!

the next is not the second MM i bought in 2009, but this one made the history of another friendship with Keith !!! this was an axis ss hard tail in cherry sunburst, i sold this because it had no tremolo, but it was very good one too!! if you're interested , this one has been filmed for the NEMO DVD : la machine à remonter le temps!!!

the next one is a steve morse Y2D , a very good one !!! in an hard tail version and with a beautyfull flame top!! i regret this one sometime!!!:(:( it was in 2008

this one , mabe the first i'll always regret to leave (i made a lot of mistakes!!! lol:D) my beautyfyll axis blue dawn LE 2007, i keep it for a year , this one made the DVD :la machine à remonter le temps, the neck was killing and the feeling, the sound were really magic!!!

this one was!!!!! i have no words!!! i hate of thinking i had to leave this one, but at that i had some money difficulties ...:(:(:( at that time...a fantastic silo special DDII

her sister the Luke DDII

after solding this one , i made a releif with another brand of guitars, i will not tell you his name;) but i wasn't happy about those , even they were great. and finally i made my come back in the "family" with this one this year!!!

and , finally i get a real beauty in touch, in sound , color!! everything in that guitar is magic!!! my Luke true gold!!!

as a conclusion of this little story of mine. i would say that MM guitars have always been the best way to express myself in the music i play with my bands or during the lessons i give to my student... ;) But the story is not finished for my , i'm thinking of buying a new one before the end of the year;)

Hey Dav - that's a nice "personal history" of EB guitars but not the kind of thing I was really looking for when I started this thread.

I get frustrated when I browse through a Guitar book - there's always a lot of "real estate" given to the other American manufacturers, but not much given over to EB.

Wanna know what I'd love to see added to this thread?

A brief description of the Axis and Axis SS since the Axis took over the baton from the EVH- could include the lovely SSS models and the Axis Ex (Japanese models).

Also a resume of the JP or the Luke guitars.

Anybody out there want to do this?

Difference between Axis Sport and Axis Supersport

I took these little nuggets of info from another thread - cheers guys

Sports have the same finish on sides and back as the front of the guitar. SuperSports have black sides and back and have binding. I believe Sports are Ash bodies and SuperSports are Basswood, but that may depend on the pickups the guitar has. Sports come with chrome locking tuners and SuperSports come with pearloid. Some old Sports have pickguards and have some single coil pickup options. Supersports are HH or MM90 and are all direct mounted to the guitar body.

Sports were the forerunner of the SuperSport. Sports are similar but visually simpler guitars, all Axis Sports are made from ash whereas the SuperSport is made from basswood with a maple cap, unless it is the MM90 version where it is ash with a maple cap!

Sports dont have binding on the body, the pretty maple tops, nor are the backs painted black and they lack pearloid tuner buttons. Where sports have an edge is in pickup choices as they came in SSS, HSS, HH and MM90 variants. The earlier Sports also had a pickguard....
