I'll be the first to admit, my guitar skills are average :). Hey, I'm a bassplayer.

Does anyone else run into the problem of hitting the pickup selector whitch while strumming on your sil guitars?

Mine gets in the way quite often and it can be an ugly sound when playing from position 5 or 6 with single's then all of a sudden jumping down to the bucker.

I was considering taking alook under the gaurd and modding it to a little metal 3 way switch like on an axis... using positions 1,5,6 if possible.... Or maybe I should learn how to play it? :)

Whast going on with me? Suggestions? Funny gig stories of the same thing happening to you? :)

I need to investigate going wireless, because my biggest goof-up usually involves stepping on the guitar cord and unplugging myself.

Or I could ruin my guitar and do one of those EVH fishing pole mods to hold my cord out of the way.

Most of my guitars are either single-humbuckers, or the 3 way switch is down and out of the way (Axis). I've had some guitars where the switch was positioned like a Les Paul (upper horn). I hit those all the time.

I have this problem with all Strats. Very inconveniently placed pickup selectors for my strumming pattern.

I hope I don't get the same issue with the JP :|

I had the same problem with the piezo selector on my JP, l don't normally play that guitar much so, l guess it's not a problem anymore, but l did use it for band practise the other week, and l didn't knock the selector. It's just something you have to get used to and you'll stop doing it soon.

I also had that problem with Strats. It's not as much of an issue, because I'm not as wild with my right hand as i used to be. There's a little more economy of motion now. With the JP the problem is not significant for me. I still hit the switch a little every now and then, but the switch is pretty robust, and it doesn't move with when I hit it--as lightly as I hit it. It's still a little bit in the way, though, and I find myself having to actively avoid it at times. On my 20th, the problem goes away, because the switch is nowhere near where my right had usually is. I love that about the ASS too.

Not much problem hitting pickup switch as having to remove the volume knob on all my old strat type guitars. SO glad EBMM Sil Sp has only two knobs, and that they are placed lower on the pickguard. No more accidental sudden volume changes. Occasionally I'll hit the pickup switch, but I chalk it up to sloppy technique.

A cheaper, non-invasion, and non-goofy solution is what I had to do to stop this...run the cable through the gap between the strap and the guitar, back to front, so that it is sort of pinned between the strap and the body. Leave a little slack, and voila, now if you step on the cable, it stays in. All you have extra is a little loop of cable between the jack and the strap button.

That thing EVH has is ridiculous.

I've always done it that way too. What's the 'fishing rod' thing then? Never seen that.

It's a solid arm or rod, maybe about a foot long that sticks straight out of the bottom of EVH's guitars on stage, which the lead is looped through and then hangs off the bottom, thus keeping the 'dangle' well away from his legs.

Although it does look a bit strange, I can see the sense, as I'm forever moving my lead away from my right leg, even with it looped through the strap.

Edit: Here's a pic. Perhaps not quite a foot!

Wow, that looks like some sort of surgical tubing!

I'd have thought wireless might have been a better option!

No kidding. EVH claimed wireless sucked his tone away. But that fishing pole thing...I guess it lets you make some money on eBay from all your now useless guitar stands and guitar cases though.

I think the loss of tone would be worth it, compared to looking like you had an industrial sized colostomy bag!

Jimmy ...
Can you stop making such joke ... I was drinking a Coke when I was reading your post. Now I have to wash my keyboard :(

Agreed. I saw that huge rod on the VH tour and thought it was the dumbest looking thing ever (next to Sammy). I just string the cable through my strap like most people do.

HOWEVER, I do like how on some Ibanez's where they have the angled input jack. I do really wish EB would consider that. That was a great idea.

Hi MCBTunes,

I know this is an old post, but hope you are still on the forum and can share any mods that you may have made as I have the same problem that you had/have. Just got a JP15 and absolutely hate the position of the pickup selector switch, but love the guitar. Did you make any mods to your guitar? If so, what did you do?
Thanks.
Vic
