Hey all!

I have been a (mostly) lurker here for a few years. I have been meaning to share my experience with EBMM guitars, and since today is the third anniversary of me getting my first Music Man guitar, I thought, what better way to celebrate?

I've been playing guitar for 20 years. Since I started, playing always felt strange, as if I could never get comfortable with the guitar, no matter what brand / model I picked up.

When I decided to move to LA and try to make a living as a musician, I went through many, many different guitars in a few years, from the usual brands to high profile boutique makers to some obscure stuff. Still, it never felt quite right. After so many years trying to find the right instrument, I became really frustrated, and started to think that maybe playing guitar wasn't for me, maybe my hands / fingers were not right for the instrument. So I decided to quit playing guitar and focus on sound engineering.

One good day, after moving to Mass, I was browsing ebay and saw an EBMM Silhouette with FR bridge for auction. It reminded me of a blue Silo I used to lust after as a kid, the one on "The Ultimate guitar Book" by Tony Bacon. So I just placed a bid on it, just for nostalgia sake, and forgot about it. I somehow won the auction, and a few days later I received the guitar. After taking it out of the case and strumming a couple of chords, my jaw dropped. THIS WAS IT! It fit my hands like a glove. I couldn't believe it. And I couldn't put it down!

For the next couple of weeks after that, I started playing non-stop. I felt like a 15 year old again, just practicing and enjoying every minute of it. I even started to record my own music again. The firt track I recorded, just about a month after getting my Silo, I called "The Comeback". (You can listen to it here)

Fast forward to today, I am back to making my living as a guitar player. During the day I make music for music libraries, commercials, radio and tv, or do internet sessions from home. On the weekends, I play in a great, fun band which is booked solid every friday and saturday through next year. Onstage, I only play my #1 Silo with a Floyd, all night every night. If I break a string, I reach for another Silo with a Floyd.

I believe if it wasn't for getting my hands on an EBMM, my life now would be quite different. I have never enjoyed playing guitar as much as I do now. So thanks BP and everybody at Ernie Ball for making the instruments that changed my life!

Best,
David

Great story and nice song !
It's important to love and to respect his instrument. The EBMM are really loveable ;)
When you own a great guitar, it keeps you motivated for practicing. When you have several great guitars, you spend your night playing because each of them have to be played !

David, great story & a great tune, nice playing.

I only wish MM guitars were around when I first started playing. I jumped from brand to brand and settled on one but even then it never felt as good as an Axis does now.

Great tune. I hear every note; very clear and articulate. Awesome. I have enjoyed playing more than ever with my Axis' and now 25th's. I have tried pretty much all of the name brands out there at one time or another, and happy with with what I have now. Just to confirm my decision, I do check out the others out there every once in a while. I love the look of some and think some features are neat on paper or pictures, but in my hands they just don't compare. With great feel from my Balls, I can get the tones I want. Yes, a hearty thanks to BP and the EBMM gang.

Dave great story and excellent playing and instrumental. I really like how you used those little runs you kept changing up, and then at about 2:57 really let it fly. I dont know how long you took a break but you are back. After the surgeon is done with me I hope my chops find there way home.lol

Great story and fantastic playing David!

In January 2007 I had 4 or 5 strats and a tele, when I purchased a EBMM Axis after gassing for a EBMM for years. That was a life changing event. Within a few years, all the Fenders were gone and I have never been happier with guitars in my life....

David,

this song is killer! superb tone, superb feel and the right amount of "technique" for the fellow guitar players out there :D
I like the no-overdubs style of recording, with solos and rhythm parts all played from the beginning to the end. Gives the "live" feel.

Congrats, and nice story! :)

Hey, this one is also a great song and great playing! The first solo is kinda Luke's style in some phrases :)
Superb tone, again!

So, where do I buy the CD? :D

David - I really liked that tune - great playing.

I experienced something similar - gave up playing for a long time then started palying through a Line 6 Pod I had my interest rekindled and set out on the quest to find me a guitar that was right for me (still had my Les Paul - but had fallen out with it!).

I was on the verge of getting a Tele then I saw a clip of albert lee playing and was blown away by his tone. After trying the Albert Lee I realised that I had found the one for me.

So EB guitars have changed both our lives.
