How do I know the time is getting close for the Dallas Birthday Bash?

Three boxes from UPS today. Two are kind of short and stubby and girly, but one's definitely bass-sized. I better check them for damage, right?

Right?

Well yeah. You can't be too careful.

Okay, first one is some kind of "Lukey" thing. Ever seen one? Little skinny strings, lemme count 'em - six. Well, they're small, so I guess you need a lot of them to make noise. Pretty thing. Some kind of gear shift knob sticking out of the bridge.

Second one, still from the short boxes. Whoa! Look at that! Just like a Stingray 5, but little bitty - and a stumpy neck. More of those skinny strings. "Sterling's Sil" is taped on to the case. What can it mean?

Third one, the regular sized manly box. Hmm, I know this bass. Black, tort guard, Bongo single H four banger. Cool.

WAIT A DAMNED MINUTE. What kind of neck is this? It's like rosewood or something! Who made THIS?

So yes, I'm controlling myself. They all went back into the cases and into the closet - howzzat for self control?

It's like Christmas, but Santa's going to play with all the toys and take them back to the North Pole!

If this is torture for you guys, imagine being IN THE SAME HOUSE WITH THEM.

So I'm guessing you didn't feel comfortable exposing them to the bright light from a camera flash??

Wow, I wish I could have gotten away from work. Sounds like a very cool time in store for all. Maybe some more hints of what we can expect in 07 too? :D

I dug up an old thread using the search function that shows a bass with full rosewood neck.
It was RECOCKULOUSLY DROOLWORTHY,
to put it midly.

I bet that bongo is HAWT!

Yes, pics of the Bongo would be much appreciated, especially by those of us who won't be there to see it in person.

Please?

I think Fedex might have tried to deliver the Markbass this morning, but the wife was retrieving her dad from the airport and I was teaching an ESL class. They should re-deliver tomorrow and I WILL be here. Or she will be, or her dad will, but someone, anyway.

actually play em all..you now that I wont own either very long

Okay! Okay! Stop twisting my arm! Ow! That hurts!

I pulled the Lukey out this morning and strummed on it a bit. Wow. Never played one of these before. You can really get some Kum-Bi-Ya stuff going on that sucker. Not very loud around the campfire, though. I'm used to my old Strat when it comes to six strings, so this was a revelation. (My Come To Poppa Moment.) And even though it's got a trem and has traversed the western half of the United States with the UPS guy, it's dead solid in tune. This is really a sweet guitar. I can see why all those whackos on The So-Called EBMM Guitar Forum go nuts over there. As of now, I'm still too scared to plug it in.

I'll get some photos for you guys since BP says it's cool.

Even as a bassist, I can see the appeal of these guitars. That Lukey is one scary good axe, peoples.

More as I get to it!

Whoa! Four boxes have newly arrived.

They all say "Markbass".

Looks like two speaker cabs, two heads.

Wife looks concerned.

Sure it isn't a look of wonderment and joy? :D

no 12" combo? :( Would've been a great coincidence for a chance to try one out.

I just took a long lunch to go and play some Stingrays at the local GC. I played them through one of the 12" Markbass combos. Those things are scary good.

I'll let you decide whether I'm talking about the combo or the Stingrays. :D

Okay, it was both. Both are scary good.
