Hello everyone, relatively new EBMM owner here. I just wanted to say hello, and join the group so to speak.

About 6 months ago, I traded one of my highly modded fender jazz basses sight un-seen for a SR4... it was by far the best gear trade and decision I have made in my 9 years of playing.

After the initial set up, the SR almost instantly became my main axe, even over the one bass I said was my "musical soul mate". Seems that this SR is exactly what I have been looking for.

I string my basses B-E-A-D (Super Slinky's) , as I need a low b for when I play at church, as well as for my regular band. That and having to replace the nut 2 weeks ago (went with bone) are the only mods I know of on the bass.

Anyway, I was told it is a 1994 model, and that seems to line up with the bridge configuration from what research was done. (37805 is the SN)

Needless to say, I am incredibly happy with the bass, and I will be looking to EBMM as I expand the herd in the future.

And yes, I know, no pics, no bass...

Cool! I like B, too, but I also like G.

:)

So I use 5 strings.

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Hi!
Welcome to the forums! Enjoy it :)

cool. I was thinking of changing my Sterling to B-E-A-D as well.
Did you change the nut for that? My sterling 4 is fairly old so it doesn't have the compensated nut. Don't know if that matters.

I used 5 strings for about 5 years before swapping to B-E-A-D ;) the 4 stings just feel more natural to me, as well as trying to find a decent 5 string has proved a problem.

Stringing B-E-A-D, you will need to file the nut to match the larger size. I had to change the nut on mine when I went to change the strings, and it was actually broken. It had a plastic nut on it, so the bone is an upgrade anyway. Also, you will need to adjust the neck, and re check your intonation due to the string tension change. I love B-E-A-D, and my SR and super slinky's give off some serious growl now. Good luck!

Welcome and enjoy the forum. If you want an exact date of birth for your bass you can post in the 'Serial Numbers Database' in the stickies on the main page. You'll even find out where your bass was originally shipped to. Cool

You tries a SR5? ;-)

Yeah. The 4 string feels more like "home" for me too. But it won't say I can't count to five! hehe.
Intonation won't be a problem. I check it every time when I put new strings on it anyway.
Thanks for the tips. I think this summer my Sterling is going to see/feel some different strings/tunings. ;-)

Yeah... so enlighten me on that please... what's the deal with the foam mutes?

Well, they're there to mute the strings... most players never use them, but

1.) That old big bridge plate with the mutes just oozes "cool"

2.) You can get a really nice muted sound (think dub reggae) and the screws allow for fine adjustment of the muting even per string
