Isn't that the truth!

No problems landing fish. Here's one I caught near my home...

Very god sir!:D

I can't believe this thread isn't dead yet...it keeps coming alive. This is the longest thread I have ever started.

Hey, let's keep this post alive simply for the reason of KEEPING THIS POST ALIVE!

After all, think of the title "I am obsessed with getting a Bongo." The reason this thread remains alive is that the desire for Bongos never dies. Hmmm...let's keep this post alive until he gets a one!

Ok you Knuckleheads, Bongoloids and Steroids. I have a dilemma.

There is a Bongo 4HH LE Sequoia Gold Finish, Rosewood Fretboard, Black Pickguard, Gold Hardware available at a shop close by to me. As a boxing week sale, if I pay cash I can get 10% off the price. That now brings this bass to only about $50 more than the Sapphire black one I have ordered.

Reasons to get it:
1. It is beautiful.
2. I would have it now.

Reasons not to get it:
1. I wouldn't have much $$$ left in my account. Note that I still have lots of money in stocks as a nest egg...
2. My wife wouldn't get mad, but she still thinks I am saving for it more slowly and that I would wait a bit longer until after Christmas. She would be somewhat annoyed.
3. It is only cosmetic. It is not going to sound any different.

What should I do?

Married bass players who actually like their wives are the only ones allowed to respond. Single guys, and guys who hate their wives need not reply.

I am thinking about your wife here and your reputation with her... so hear me out.

Cosmetics vs sound it's debatable however, if you get this fancy one now, your wife might have doubts that you had this scheme all worked out from day one. She is not blind deaf or dumb and in her place I would also have doubts. You don't want to lose her trust, and little things like these could cause trouble in the long run. I'd say do the time like we've all done and wait patiently. After all your wife has already stood by your original choice. Any sudden change of plans can be misleading.

Unless you explain to her in exact details what this new plan means and see if she agrees to it or not. Ask her first.

Now the only regret I would have if you go for the fancy one, is that you have committed yourself and EBMM to an order already, and by cancelling it is not really a honourable cause, I would be embarrassed to cancel and order on the basis that something else came up.

People have cancelled orders because unforeseen circumstances have taken place such as a new baby arrival or a loss of job and I believe under those ciscumstances, EBMM is flexible enough to understand those, but to cancel one order because you've seen another bass is something I couldn't put myself to do.

Sorry about been blunt.

Blunt is exactly what I need to hear.

The order would not be cancelled. The store will simply put it on the rack for someone else to buy. No worries there. I checked.

But it is the wife thingy I worry about. So far my thoughts are as follows. It is a Boxing Week promotion not just Boxing Day. I absolutely refuse to leave the house on the 26th and line up like a fool for bargains and sales. No thank you.

I will wait a few days. If it is still there then maybe it was meant for me to get. Plus, it gives me time for some sober thought. Right now I have some beer and single malt scotch in my belly and blood. Not the time to make decisions.

I want to make sure my wife does not think I am full of sh!t or trying to pull a fast one.

Thanks GW. I really appreciate your wise words. Thats what I needed.

I would wait for the one I ordered. There is some satisfaction in waiting for a bass. If you have something to play in the mean time.

Your wife was gracious enough to allow you to order one.
