Last night I was at a wedding where the typically bland covers band was playing. From a distance it looked like the bassist was plugging in a StingRay with a 2-band EQ (and I was excited), but things looked slightly off. The bridge didn't look the same as my 'Ray, and the lead went into the faceplate, not the edge of the instrument. Perhaps it was an older model, I thought, or it had been customised somewhat. Then they started playing and the sound was off. It didn't have that ballsy sound I equate with 'Rays, in fact it sounded passive (and frankly, cheap). I thought 'well, perhaps it's that particular Fender amp she's going through, or she's just dialled in a really bland setting'.

I got closer and noticed that although the headstock had the tuning pegs in a 3+1 configuration, the G string peg stuck out the bottom instead of the top. I went closer to read the brand during a break and saw it wasn't a MM at all, but a cheesy 'Rok Axe'. I was more than disappointed, I was offended.

Just wanted to share. :(

Dirty

Maybe rather than feeling dirty because this woman has a cheap MM copy, maybe you should have felt privlaged to be able to afford one, maybe she was on the bread line? poor woman having said that she might just not look upon music equipment with the same effection as you? maybe shes just loves playing and the gear is just secondary? who knows, Live and let live I say.

I think thats fair?

This is a big picture question. In the past we didn't cover all of the price points so if someone wnated a 'MM Style" bass and couldn't afford the real one..they were forced to buy a copy. Now we have all of the price points covered and each of the instruments are quite good in their respective price point.

I have been involved in design and marketing for over 30 years. If I like something I support the person or company that created the product, not some company that only exists to profit from others innovation, hard work and creativity. I have never downloaded ripped off music and never bout a copy of anything. Karma baby.
